Death penalty for disobedient children?

Southern Republicans don't believe in evolution or the Big Bang. About 1/2 of the nation doesn't believe in evolution, and unfortunately, Southern Republicans are the most hardcore opponents to believing in it. So it shouldn't be too surprising that Georgian Republican Paul Broun stated in a speech that evolution, embryology and the Big Bang are "all lies straight from the pit of Hell." Yes, he said that. Lies meant to keep people from knowing his savior he goes on to say. He also states later that the bible teaches how to run "all our public policies and everything in society."

The really scary thing is, even more than him one of only 535 full voting members of the U.S. Congress is that he is also on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Yes, a man who believes the earth is 9000 years old and that physicist Dr. Stephen Hawking is basically being possed by demons from the pitt of hell, is on that committee. A committee that helps set public policy in these areas.

See, according to this guy, not only are scientists vastly wrong, but they are being led by satan. See, if it is a lie from the pit of hell, it must be satan doing the lying. Or, the demons I mentioned.

When secularists and non-believers and atheists like me talk about theocracy in the Republican party, we aren't just whistling Dixie. These guys are nuts. By the way, Broun also lies and says he is a scientist when he only has a B.A. in chemistry and a medical degree. Shows you not all doctors are like Dr. House on T.V. Well, at least Broun is not as bad as would be Arkansas state representative Charlie Fuqua who wrote in a book published this year:

The maintenance of civil order in society rests on the foundation of family discipline. Therefore, a child who disrespects his parents must be permanently removed from society in a way that gives an example to all other children of the importance of respect for parents. The death penalty for rebellious children is not something to be taken lightly. The guidelines for administering the death penalty to rebellious children are given in Deut 21:18-21:

Again, when atheists or humanists like me oppose theocracy in the Republican party, we have darn good reason. Again, these people are nuts! This guy is just as reactionary as the most hardcore Saudi cleric. All children are disobedient to some extent, it is part of growing up. Who would decide that a kid must die anyway, the parent on the spot with his/her Colt 45 or the government? What if the child reaches 18, still they can be killed. Ironic, that Fuqua is against abortion and calls himself pro-life. I guess not pro-life all that much.
