Libya has officially denied that Al Megrahi is dying. Libyan officials said Al Megrahi is currently receiving treatment.
Libya denied reports Wednesday that the only man convicted in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing was taken to intensive care after his illness from terminal prostate cancer worsened.
"Al-Megrahi is not in a dangerous situation and is receiving full treatment from a team of Libyan doctors," said Seyala.
The "Lockerbie bomber"Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi who was released from the Scottish prison on "compassionate grounds" two weeks ago is now on death watch in Tripoli, Libya. Al Megrahi is currently in the intensive care, being seen by cancer specialists flown in from Europe to Tripoli. He is on oxygen support and receives large doses of medications. Originally, it as said that Al Megrahi had three months to live.
Al Megrahi was the only person charged in connection with the Pam Am Flight 103 bombing. He was found guilty and received a life sentence, but got terminally ill while in prison. Scottish authorities released Al Megrahi on August 20 to let him die in his native Libya.
"He's in a bad situation. The last check-up was very, very bad," the convicted terrorist's brother, Mohammed al-Megrahi, told the Times of London.
"His health is deteriorating fast since he arrived," the head of the Libyan State Information Agency, Majid al-Dursi, told the Associated Press.
"Only God knows when it will be over. But he is dying now."
Al Megrahi maintains his innocence. Upon his return to Libya, Al Megrahi expressed his intention to publish a book that would contain evidence allegedly proving his innocence.
