A student was shot on a sidewalk near Deer Valley High School around 8:30 am. The Antioch Unified School District issued a lockdown at Deer Valley and other schools in the district after they learned about the incident.

The boy was shot in the arm and chest. He was conscious and responsive when police arrived. He was later flown to a hospital.

The boy appeared to have ran into an argument with the shooter, who was a non-student.

Police said the shooting was preceded by an argument between the group of males the victim was with and another group in a car, who fled. One student reported hearing three to four shots; another, Christian Miller, 15, said she also heard gunfire.
A student described the shooter's vehicle as a black sedan with tinted windows playing loud music, occupied by a driver and passenger. It was last seen eastbound on Indian Hill Road. The school was put on lockdown shortly after the shooting.

Police has not announced any arrest.

The lockdown was lifted at 10 am. Classes and sports practices will continue as usual.
