Gunman Killed in Tallinn Defense Ministry Shooting

A former Estonian soldier set off a bomb, took a security guard hostage and fired shots inside the Estonian Defense Ministry in Tallinn. The gunman was killed during the incident: it's not yet clear if he shot himself, or if he was shot by another security guard.

Estonian Defense Minister Mart Laar was not in the building at the time of the incident.

Other ministry employees jumped out of windows to flee the scene, before armed police wearing body armour entered the building, TV images showed.

Tallinn is located across the Gulf of Finland from Helsinki.
