NP Rank:
Democracy Under Fire From Within. Niger Demonstration.
By Uwe Paschen
Niamey, the Capital City of Niger, has know a larger Uprising of people demonstrating by the Thousand's again their governments Plan to change the Constitutions allowing the President to remain in Power indefinitely, Or at least for another term.
This is not an Isolated case, around the World our democracies are being under attack from with in, In Venezuela, Chaves tried and still does in a way to change the constitution in order to remain in power indefinitely. In Germany and Japan the Governments have tried to force a constitutional change as well and this with out consulting the People nor following democratic procedures.
Around the World, our Democracies are being under attack and the danger is not coming from out side, nor from Terrorist groups or other radical movements, No it is coming from with in our Nations and respective Governments that seem to believe they know best and better then the Citizen that elected them and could also remove them from power.
Niger is no exception with this latest attempt of a Government to undermine democracy and ignore the will of the people and revoke their democratic rights. Our Democracies are in serious danger of falling back into a totalitarian Dictatorial system, even in the western Countries the Danger is real and greater then ever today.
The People need to be on their guard and stop this sort of Governmental arrogance before it is to late and may drive us back into a feudal system or worth. In Niger the People have taken to the Street and spoken as they spoke in Germany, Japan, Venezuela and Thailand against Such Governmental arrogance and attempt to go over the heads of their Citizens.
This seems to have started with 9/11 and the US Government suspending part of their constitution and invoking special laws allowing the arrest and restrained of Citizen under the pretext of terrorism or the possibility of such, with out rights nor laws to protect the Citizen. That was just the beginning as the people failed to fight back out of fear and anger over the terror attack and saw their rights being revoked with out even realizing that they lost their freedom.
Should we fail to stop this new trend in Niger and elsewhere we may very well have to deal with another Mugabe or Bush very soon and this in our own countries. Even the Industrialized and older Democracies could fall back into such totalitarian regimes. It seems as if all Citizen every where in the World need to be on their guards today more then ever before. As Leo Blum said in 1912, The only way to avoid a war and fight injustice is if all Workers and Citizen of the World unite. He was assassinated in Strasbourg for preaching Unity against Totalitarian regimes and for Justice and Freedom.

I have a simple question, why we humans are getting so restless, Gandhiji's philosophy of Satyagrah is best possible solution of seekinf truth, but people find it tough to follow.

I am not sure I understand your comment correctly here Amitjha. could you clarify it please, or rephrase it. Much appreciated.

Sorry for the inconvinience paschen, my point is why we humans fight, if it is not resources then it is power behind that which drive these fight.Fighting for justice is good but the definition of justice itself changes according to situation and time.Gandhian Satyagrah is all about seeking truth non violently.

I do agree with you here Amitjha. Truth rather then violence. One needs to be brave and have courage to face the truth though any coward can be violent for it is an easy way to deal with once problems with out having to face the truth.

The use of violence for any cause cant be justified at any cost. The problem of our society and education system is that it teaches us to go for easiest and shortest route to success, use of violence always comes handy to reach the goal.So the whole mechanism of setting goal at fault, so the path will be blood ridden for sure.

Yes, It is a problem in deed. The So called American way off life or dream and its misconceptions as well as its detachment from reality may be one of the main causes here and Materialism at large as well rather then spiritual and intellectual values being promoted all we do is promote money as the sole value and only god, People have made money and materialism their new god in a way and this in all religion across the board, we have lost our North Heading so to speak and have no longer our roots embedded with in the Earth but rather exposed to the elements.

Nice very nice words, but this thousands of years of conditioning is not going to unconditioned so easily, the humans concince have lost the visonary aspect they are acute miopic or blind.Unfortunately the education system is also propagating the same idology of lust greed anger violence to reach the goal.

Well, look at the reality, we glorify Wars, We honour War Hero's and we sing songs of great battles and make movies glorifying violence, war and dying in the battle field killing others and being killed. This is what we teach our children and then we are surprised that some of them become terrorist, or Soldiers killing and rapping. We actually created those monsters and made them be proud to do what they are doing with violence and stupidity.
We are responsible and no one else but our self's can be blamed for this madness.

The layout is just fine. Nice post Paschen.

Well said, Paschen. I am amazed here in Thailand at how easily a democratically elected government (OK I don't support it but I am a democrat) can teeter on the edge thanks to a bunch of respectable but non the less thugs taking things into their own hands. And you are completely right about the gloryfication of war. Our central churches in London are a celebration of war; our streets are full of statues everywhere you look of long forgotten commanders, and telling who they killed. As you say, Paschen, we have created these monsters and we celebrate them.

Here I started the International Institute of Nonviolence and no one is interested to be a standing member? I stand all alone here. I get lots of ...oh thats a good idea....but they are empty shells who do not join and support the effort. 1 dollar a year from your own countries dollar value is the yearly due in joining and being a member...but nothing,,, Frankly I am quite ashamed to be in this world. They are all nothing but blood thirsty killers...
Instead they do this.....

No offence meant here D. Germano, You may have a lot more success if you left religion out of the equation, many would agree with such an organization and even join it, however they do not agree with the religious aspect you bring in, there are Muslims, Jews, Christian, Atheist, Pagan, Buddhist, Hindu's that would all like such organization and yet they do not like the religious preaching nor the God in there, since many do not agree with your or other religious views, it would be best to leave religion out of it completely and then maybe more people would join. You do sign your name with Reverent Germano and that alone will keep a great many away.
Thank you for the read, Comment and R here, I do appreciated it.

Well isn't that a sad comment by Mr. Uwe. You know what does religion have to do with it? Just because these people spoke of God and did good deeds in life...you are making me believe that is a reason for rejection? I find that insanity at its height of hypocrisy. OK let's hear the Nonviolent Muslims and Jews, Atheists, Pagans, and Buddhists, and Hindu's besides Ghandi who have promoted Nonviolence so we can have them as founding members. What? We won't find them? I see so go bash some more people in India?, better yet around the world! They don't like God, but they like murder is what you are telling me. I find that to be not very refreshing toward humanity. How can you deny God? Just look in the mirror is enough.
Count me out of the Bashing Peoples Society..I won't be joining you either.

No, it is not the reason of rejection, it is part off it. There is nothing wrong with any religion what so ever and all have their merit as well as their down sites, since all where created by Humans. Religion should be left out and not forced unto any one, same would go for Political partisan attitude, those two will never bring any large group of people together for a single cause, no matter how good the cause may be. Leave Religion and Politics at the door step and you may see more success. You do like to miss interpret comments that are not to your liking and that may at time even hit the nail right on the head.
BZW once you put the Mister or Mr in front it is Paschen doing other wise is actually an insult and derogative in case you are not aware, unless that was the intend.
Thank you for the comment Reverent Germano.

Uwe the people who were Nonviolent leaders happened to believe in God. Jesus Christ also nonviolent happened to be the son of God. You are asking me to find success by leaving out God. That is quite nonsensical. Your remarks appear to insult me. and common sense. No one is pushing religion down anyones throat here. But I am pushing for Nonviolence. And you are quite wrong that Mr. in front of a first name is an insult. You can call me Mr. Dom anytime.

In some cases yes, however not all believed in God, Some where Pagan, other Buddhist and Gandhi was Hindu and Brandt was an atheist. You can keep God with in you and not force it on to others, that is the point here, same goes for politics, you can not unite Socialist and Capitalist for a same good cause if you try to convert either, however if you make it non political and non religious then you can unit a great many people. That does not mean that you have to give up your personal Religion or believes nor your Political affiliations or convictions, yet you can work for a common cause together, such as peace, environment and others.

Was Gandhi political or religious? I think he was both. So to say we are neither is not true. It is impossible to say we are neither.because that is a lie. The state appears to be more violent than religous...but there are religions that are pro violence.
I state my Institute is for Nonviolence, and have incorporated past individuals who displayed those qualities. Those people are great people in my mind. So they happen to be religious, but AJ Muste is not a Religious figure in my list of Nonviolent fathers. So it is both a mix and you can see that. It is you who interpret it as religion...I clearly am not advocating it is a religious Institute. It is a Nonviolent Institute, that has both religious figures and non religious figure as the standing fathers to its foundation of its beginning..

And you are still wondering why no one joins your institute of N.V.?
at 06:54 on December 3rd, 2008
No I don't wonder I know why. They prefer violence.
