State Representative Mike Kernell, a Memphis Democrat, made a statement to the Tennessean in which he identified his son, David Kernell, as the hacker who broke in to vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s email address and posted screenshots of the contents on the internet.

Mike Kernell represents District 93, which covers the University of Memphis, and parts of south-east Memphis. He told the Tennessean on Thursday that it was indeed his son David who, using the handle Rubico, posted the original screenshots of Governor Palin’s e-mail account after using Yahoo’s password recovery service and a bit of research to find out personal details about Palin and subsequently gain control of her password. The father refused to make any further comment, especially on the whereabouts of his son.

David Kernell, aged 20, is a student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Using the handle Rubico, he made a post on the 4chan.org forums, in which he alleges that he is the one who is responsible for leaking Governor Palin’s e-mail inbox details online, and goes on to provide a believable account of how he did it.

Nevertheless, authorities are pursuing a separate avenue of investigation to establish if this is true.

Through a careless mistake on the part of the hacker, the screenshots posted online show most of the URL of a proxy website that he used, named Ctunnel. The service, based in Athens, Ga., is run by one Gabriel Ramuglia, who has said that he will use that information to sift through his logs and establish the IP of the hacker. Although Ramuglia’s service is designed to protect his users’ anonymity, he has stated that he will fully co-operate with authorities as the hack violated his terms of service.

Palin linked to teen pregnancy - out of wedlock too! - as long as we are casting the sin of the child on the parent.  If one bothers to read the story, one discoverers the headline is - to be polite - disingenuous. One also learns that the "congressman" is a state representative.

What do you call a State Representative..... Congressman

Where?
Congressman refers to a member of the U. S. Congress.

politisite, all of dunkelberg's comments are "baiting" comments designed to sidetrack the point of your post.  Don't let this outrageous act of hacking into Sarah Palin's e-mails be sidetracked.

politisite, good stuff. I was reading about this overnight last night and one account said that the kid did it for political purposes. Ooops.

The headline is a lie.  The story is true.

You know us in the GOP... you are linked if someone is within a mile of you.  Bottom line is you do not know what part the congressman has in this thing.  It looks good for him though that Thursday he said, his son had nothing to do with it.  Today, he admitted that his son was involved.  That would lead me to believe that it was not a Democratic operative gathering information.  The child is linked to his Father, who is a Democrat Congressman.

The headline is a lie and factually incorrect.  You also are having trouble with proper adjective terminology.  Perhaps an editor could help?  English can be a confusing language.

a lot of your headlines are outright misleading lies.  the headline stated the person was related.  the congressman title should be legislator.  but give me a break.  yours are intended to be misleading about McCain or Palin.

Was it David Kernell who cracked his way into Sarah Palin's email?

Answer, in short: very unlikely.

All the blogs have made some considerable leaps in logic to come to the conclusion they have, and when the IP is traced, we'll know for sure.

As for the claims that "popcorn" is a joke on his name, it happens to be a very popular password for sharing things among friends on that site, and it goes years back.

Secondly, no one in their right mind would post their real name on those imageboards, nevertheless a trackable username. Trying to find this person by username is just silly, even if the "confession" poster is actually the one who really did the deed (of which there's no substantial proof).

And third, how do you extrapolate rubico10@yahoo.com from "Rubico" with 100% confidence?

The "sleuths" who are working on this are foaming at the mouth, but their attacks on Mike and David Kernell are, as of yet, unjustified.

Just thought you should know.

Anon,

I guess as of today it is now justified.

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/08/tennessee-man-indicted-hacking-palins-e-mail-account/

The son of David C. Kernell Democratic state rep of Memphis, TN was indicted today.  Read the article to see the unquestionable evidence that the son did in fact do this.  Then please use your common sense (which is not so common in the world today) to figure out why a son of a Democratic state rep would hack into the Republican VP nominee's email just prior to a presidential election -- especially during a time when Sarah Palin is giving a huge boost to the Republicans!  This stinks to high heaven.  If this kid gets off easy or gets some kind of payoff from the Dems, I going to be ticked!  Why isn't this being reported in the news?

It was reported on my local TV news just now that the son of a Democratic operative, Kernell, had pleaded not-guilty to the charge of hacking into Sarah Palin's e-mails.  Actually this kind of behavior, the voter fraud, the intimidation tactics, the lies and the smears are all justified to the end of putting Obama in the White House.
