While the majority of Democrats play by the rules, a fringe group has attempted a full smear campaign on Vice-presidential candidate, Governor Palin.  The group has released a document called an opposition research paper including her Social Security number minus some digits.  It appears that with all of the spin doctors in full action that Gov. Palin is a threat to the Democrats in the upcoming election.

Barack Obama has been polling over 50% in the last few days.  Inside the Obama camp they are confident that Americans will make a decision for them in November.  Others outside of the Obama inner circle are not so sure and have continued to post rumors all the way from Palins last child is really her daughter Bristol's child born out of wedlock.  To dispel these rumors, the McCain campaign released that her daughter is currently pregnant.  The net was flying with rumors about Palin having posed nude and in a two piece bathing suit.  Those rumors turned up to be false.

The last rumor was that Palin was going to drop out of the race today.  Palin is scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention in Prime Time tonight.

The Politico has received an opposition research file from the Alaska Democrats.

In the file, the Democrats have released Sarah Palin's social security number minus the last four digits. Also tied to the information are her various home addresses.

Back in 2005, Democrats used Michael Steele's social security number to get his credit record.

It is atrocious that the Democrats would not only seek out Sarah Palin's social security number, but release it in opposition research to the press.

We need to know who did this. We also need to know what happened. We also need to know if it was used to bolster the Democrats' opposition research.

When it happened to Michael Steele, it turns out the Democrats knew about it and did nothing.

They cannot not take action now.

Documents detail Palin's political life

Sarah Palin may be new to most Americans, but she’s not entirely new to the national Democratic Party.

Democrat Tony Knowles, her opponent in the 2006 Alaska gubernatorial race, put together a detailed, 63-page research document — obtained by Politico — cataloging Palin’s strengths and weaknesses. And the Obama campaign, in particular, knows Palin well: A key Obama consultant, Anita Dunn, worked on Knowles’ campaign.

“We’re running against John McCain — the issues raised around his decision and the fact that he clearly bowed under to the right wing of his party and let them exercise veto power over his vice presidential pick,” Dunn said, suggesting the Obama campaign wouldn’t be recycling the 2006 Democratic criticism of Palin.

“Whether it was Sarah Palin or Tim Pawlenty or Mitt Romney or somebody else, fundamentally that wasn’t going to alter the dynamic — which is that John McCain believes we don’t need to change the fundamental economic policies in this country,” Dunn said.

The media and many Democrats seem to be upset that they where blindsided by the announcement of virtually unknown Palin as V.P., Being unprepared all of them have been lashing out by posting every half truth and even some utter lies which they dig up.

Most Vps are unknown.  Thanks for your comment

Are you telling me you are not giving the illustrious National Enquirer its due as the real reason behind the announcement?

Thanks for noting it is a fringe group, and release of Social Security numbers is ridiculous.  For some reason, extremists of every stripe seem to get a kick out of publishing home addresses and telephone numbers.

The worst part about this is it takes away from real issues where the GOP can be found wanting.

I want to get to the issues as well.  I think that the smear campaign is a way to get this woman to step down.. God forbid my background was researched.. I was in the Music business when i was young.  No political office for me.

The Bottom line is that Liberals don't want a woman to break the glass ceiling.  They want a LIBERAL woman.   Its like when Clinton was being accused of Rape and sexual issues the womans groups were silent.  Lets talk about real hypocracy here.

This is hardly surprising.  The stakes are high and when supporters are so blindly supportive of a candidate (as is the case for many Obama supporters) they will stoop to anything to try to get their candidate elected.  It is an "ends justifies the means" mentality.  Taken to this level I suspect it will be a blemish; not on Palin but on the Democrats.  As long as McCain stays on message and takes the high road on these issues he will look like the better man.

I think the tactic will backfire.  With Obama's history of friends, Ayers, Rezko and others, I am sure the American People will see right through this.  My take is, what are they so afraid of that the left has gone into full attack mode.  Folks don't shoot unless they are threatened.

Curiously enough, that's what the other side is saying about McCain-Bush/Palin.

Now, Al, I'm sure you know there are others who may not share ideals with Republicans, including Independents.

Is there a specific reason you identified those who published Governor Palin's SS# as a fringe of the Democratic Party? I was unable to access the link provided.

As far as a threat, whether she truly is a threat remains to be seen. Any strengths the governor may possess will mostly play to those already inclined to vote for the Republican ticket.

Much is being done to somehow equate Governor Palin with Senator Clinton. These two women couldn't be any more diametrically opposite in ideologies.

In politics, folks shoot in the hopes of hitting and damaging a target that's been provided.

My educated guess would be that Palin was chosen not to appeal to Independants but to ensure that the conservative Republican base not only votes for McCain but volunteers and attends fundraisers.  Campaigns are won off the backs of the volunteers and those most likely to volunteer for the GOP are the conservative Christians - and they LOVE Palin.

The report that I was referring to have been removed.  John McCain is not a Republican base candidate.  Governor Palin was a move to gather two groups.  Displased Hillary supporters who are really interested in a woman vice-president and to the Social conservatives.  John McCain is a fiscal and defense conservative.  many of the social conservatives did not like his stances on several issues and would have remained home.  There are Hillary supporters who are going to support John McCain all the much more.  There are a few groups who are interested in a female in a high position regardless of her stance on certin issues.

Karen, My thing is that of it is open season on Gov Palin and her children, then it should be open season on both candidates.  I like that the same pople who are taking shots at Palin are the same people that said the Clinton's child was off limits.

The idea that the attacks are not coming from democrats is absurb.  The original document came from the democrat who was running against her in the election for Governor in Alaska.  It was 63 pages in lenghth.  Who gains the most from getting Palin out of the race?  The answer to that question points to the suspects.

I was being nice not naming names and not blaming the full party.  You want a name? Tony Knowles

The additional information that was added was address, telephone numbers, email address, SS infomation.  Used often to intimidate a candidate.

Thanks for a name, Al. I never said it couldn't be Democrats that leaked the information. As I said, I was unable to access the link.

I am opposed to the coverage of the Palin family's private matters but, you must admit, given the conservative nature of the Party and its stance on family issues, with the family choosing to make an announcement to the world, it seems it should have been expected that this matter would be over emphasized.

I'm sure if Chelsea Clinton had turned up as a pregnant minor, we still would be hearing about it.

As far as the current gaggle of children among the Democratic candidates, the Obama children are most likely in elementary school. Not sure there's much of a hint of scandal there.

The Biden grandkids may provide some media distraction but, most of them look kind of young as well.

I'm hoping the Palin teen pregnancy distraction dies down soon so other issues that concern the governor can be tackled by the media.

For whatever reason, the Palin family decided to issue a statement on this issue, an ill advised move, it could be argued.

If Palin had some chops to her credit, I wouldn't mind her being McCain's VP choice, not that I think McCain's gonna win anyway, but at least if he did, and Palin had some solid background behind her in things line foreign policy etc, then fine. But the fact is, she doesn't have the chops. She's never proven herself like Biden has, in being top drawer on key issues LIKE foreign policy. And to top it off, McCain's bimbo has the audacity to say Palin DOES have foreign policy experience because Russia and Alaska are like 66 miles apart. WHOOPTY DOO!! What did she do, conduct policy meetings with Putin via megaphone while the two sat on each other's respective shores? Give me a small break here. The fact is, she's NOT prepared on day one, to lead the country.

It's only a small matter that Hilary would be pissed that she didn't get to be the first woman VP or President. And hey, the day is still young, something might happen to Bush AND Cheney and Pelosi becomes president for a few months lol.

I totally expect Palin will bow out, perhaps even during her speech tonight

OK Jim I will bite.  If you believe that her experience is not sufficient then please outline Senator Obama's foriegn policy credentials (and giving campaign speeches to germans does not count as foriegn policy).

I understand the use of "experience" as a yardstick, something which is tangible and able to be compared against. But when you get right down to it there are people in this world without College educations whom are capable of leading a country, there are people with pasts which they would like buried in the closet and whom have been reformed for over a decade, who are more than capable to lead a country.

In my opinion we place our public officials under such high scrutiny that they are forced to lie about their past and bury details just to do the work they want to do. In many cases I'd rather have the fellow who has had a hard life with a un-tasty past who has "redeemed himself" be a leader than someone born into the political arena with high paid scrubbers expunging his past.

I personally can not relate to the lives of 80%+ of our nations Politicians. Honestly.... can you expect someone who lives (and has lived) such a vastly different life than you to be able to represent "you" ?

....stepping down from small soapbox now

Well when the rubber meets the road, she has more expeience then the Democratic presidential candidate.  Lets see, Obama was in chrage of the Harvard Law review where he wrote one article. He was a community organizer, a job that could be held by almost anyone,  He Sat on a board with a terrorist William Ayers from the weather underground, a man who bombed the pentagon.  Chairman of a couple of committees in the Senate, one of which he never held a meeting.  Have you heard of one piece of legislation that has the name Obama on it?  You know Like McCain/Kennedy, McCain/Fiengold, etc.  Are you sure you want to have this discussion?

I don't think she's going to drop out, but I think it may have been a good idea for McCain's camp to have done a bit more research before they took her on board. Or maybe this kind of scandal / gossip is just what they need?

Silly me.

I forgot to see if Politico actually printed all that information.  If they did, it wasn't in the cited article.

What is in that article is a tantalizing story of small town abuse of power and arrogance, some bordering on (if not actually) illegal.

Cheers!

Has she been charged with anything.  Anything at all?  If we are only speculating how about Obama & Rezko?
