Medics tell Press TV they have found traces of depleted uranium in some Gaza residents wounded in Israel's ground offensive on the strip.

Norwegian medics told Press TV correspondent Akram al-Sattari that some of the victims who have been wounded since Israel began its attacks on the Gaza Strip on December 27 have traces of depleted uranium in their bodies.

The report comes after Israeli tanks and troops swept across the border into Gaza on Saturday night, opening a ground operation after eight days of intensive attacks by Israeli air and naval forces on the impoverished region.

Kate, thanks for posting the story. Where is Bush who killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis on the false pretext of WMDs and those who are not tired of talking about human rights? Where is the UN that was created to save the humans but has so far abetted death of millions of people?

Ammunition with Uranium shells should be forbidden. Uranium is chemical highly toxic in groundwater over years. So what is the intention here ?

John B:

This article comes down on the side of the Palestinians but there are two sides to the story.
When it comes to human rights, Hamas has declared the Israelis have no rights to exist. They are backing this up with rockets fired into Israel. When the six-months truce was over, it was Hamas who started the trouble, again. They choose to not live in peace with their neighbor. Israel's only other alternative is to do nothing while Hamas reigns down rockets on their citizens. The blame for Palestinian deaths lays squarely with their own government.

Depleted uranium shells are commonly used for armour piercing.  All modern armies use them.  Wars suck so don't provoke one you can't finish.

Not all modern Armies only a hand full and those do also have veto power in the UN.

I would not want to be an infantry soldier in combat without the option of using these munitions (especially if your enemy has them).  Unfortunately voluntary bans do not work once one side of a war starts to lose.

Good point eastvanray.

Most likely from the US army with Love to be used specifically on Palestine.

Yeh, sure...and the Jews use Christian Blood (now Moslem blood is fashionable) at Passover.

Cheap disinformation, in fact so cheap that it is an insult of intelligence. BTW, this is recycled. Souha Arafat, the late Yasser Arafat's wife already tried it on Hillary Clinton when she visited Ramalla a few years ago, while in a press conference, and she embarrased Hillary so much with this out-of-touch stupidity, that there was a protest back then from the Americans to the Palestinitan Authority. Even if you want to reason logically about the plausibility of this fantastic libel, if you were a general would be so dumb as to spread radioactive material in an area that your own soldiers will enter a few days later?  But actually by refuting it I am dignifying it, so I'd better stop.

It just shows how low the Hamas "people" (not really human) can go.

There is a very simple solution to the Depleted Uranium problem. (1) Hamas stops firing rockets at Israel. (2) Hamas announces it will recognize Israel's right to exist (even without accepting the current borders!). (3) Israel withdraws within 24 hours.

Its that simple: to live, you must let live.

What is the story wit hthe Uranium? There is no Uranium in this war period.

Other than that, give me a break, I can't see any country which has a minimal responsibility for it's citizens that it would let some terrorist organization bobard it for 8 years!!! And this, after doinf everything to stay away from this area as possible (Israel left one sided the Gaza strip 3 years ago...)

when Bush attacked Iraq you were crying out load that he has no evidence for the weapons of mass-distraction... well, why don't we hear the same cry here?! please chek your facts before posting your disinformation.

Why are you pointing your hateful lies against Israel while the Hamas is the evil force who is holding hostage both  the Palestinians and the Israelis?

Israel provide warning to any target to let potential civilian inhibitors to leave... Hamas is COWARDLY using women and children as HUMAN SHIELD!

Did you cry out load when the Hamas massacred the Palestinian legitimate government forces and brutaly killed and tortured innocents, when it took over Gaza?

It is unfortunate that innocents are suffering, this is the evil sarcastic game that the Hamas is playing - the use of the blood of women and children as a weapon.

This war should go on until Hamas is powerless and Gaza is back on track to a new peacheful horizon! You should encorage the Palestinians and Arab nations to direct their energy against the Hamas and the evil power behind it - Iran...
