Yes, deranged at the Shoot Straight Range in Casselberry, Florida, a twenty-minute car drive from Altamonte Springs where Maria lived, and a convenient place for anyone to rent a Gun, simply by providing ID and a Credit Card. According to the Shoot Straight web info,  at all (their) locations,

Range Fees

Pistol Range - $13/Hour per person, $11/Hour per person with purchase of ammo
Rifle Range - $15/Hour per person, $13/Hour per person with purchase of ammo

Machine Gun - $15/Hour per person

I'm not sure of the actual hours, but 'Monday night is Ladies Night' where ladies are exempt from range fees (pistol, rifle & archery).

Now if this isn't pre-meditated Murder - and Suicide -  I don't know what is. Maria Moore, the 44-year-old Mother of Mitchell, 20 obviously felt a lot of things going on in her life were beyond her control the day she left for Casselberry along with her son. The Casselberry Police released Maria's suicide notes to The Orlando Sentinel where she attempts a final step in taking control of the situations in her troubled life.

Moore explains in the notes that she signed over the title to her truck, left the keys in it and also left behind $7,900 cash and a check.

Unfortunately those steps involved taking her son Mitchell along to rent guns, going through a few rounds of target practice, and then shooting him fatally in the back of the head, after which she shoved the gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger once. She died later at a Hospital in Altamonte.

According to her Father, Charles Moore, Marie had a history of mental illness and had previously attempted suicide

On audio recordings left for her family, police and gun range owners, Moore apologized for what she had done, but said God commanded her to do it. She said God made her the 'Antichrist,' and that she must die to save her boyfriend, son and the world from violence, and her mother, father and brother from hell.

"You have a gun, you can do it," she said God told her while she was in a mental hospital. "I have to die and go to hell so there can be a thousand years peace on Earth."

and been involuntarily committed to a mental hospital in 2002 under the state's Baker Act , which I highly suggest reading in order to judge for yourself as being effective enough or not.

(a) 2.  There is a substantial likelihood that without care or treatment the person will cause serious bodily harm to himself or herself or others in the near future, as evidenced by recent behavior.

Maybe the Americans should start to think about some gun access restrictions.

Clarification :

Tina Kells
broke the Maria Moore story a day before I did, but unfortunately her story did not come up as 'related' while I was composing this. I am not sure if she would have wanted the Graphic Video attached, though. A sad comment on the horrors of the deranged in society trying to make a go of it.

Abhor guns and the thought of them so easily available is petrifying.

This story itself is not what I am happy to cover because it is basically offering a pathway on how to get hold of a gun - even if you have a stolen credit card or ID. Background checks ? Too time-consuming  and complicated for the person who runs the store. Simpler to take the cash.

I started to watch the video but stopped it after about 20 seconds. How bad is it to anyone who has watched it? Do you really see the shootings?

The shooting takes place at 00:28 so you just missed it, but it's a very split-second affair : son aims, mother positions herself behind son, takes the shooting stance, then fires point-blank once into the back of her son's head. He drops out of cam view immediately and so does she. So we don't see her suicide. Enough said and sorry to have to say it.
