City of Culture Explosion in Londonderry

A bomb exploded at the City of Culture offices in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Shipquay Street is currently closed. Nobody was injured in the blast, which went off at 10pm local time. The extent of the damage is unclear.

This is the second attack on the City of Culture offices; the first was a pipe bomb in January. Derry's City of Culture plans have already faced an uphill battle due to smaller budgets than those given to cities in the past.

Derry was awarded the right to become the 2013 UK City of Culture in 2010, an achievement that has secured cross-community support in Northern Ireland.
