Diane Sawyer, 63, is leaving Good Morning America (GMA) to host the World News on ABC. Sawyer was a host on over 2,800 episodes of Good Morning America in a span of ten years. She will now replace Charles Gibson as an anchor for ABC's World News show. Gibson announced his retirement plans in September 2009. Sawyer will formally assume the position on December 21. It is not clear who will replace Sawyer on Good Morning America, but the show will run a countdown to Sawyer's final days on GMA. Sawyer announced her leave from Good Morning America during the show on Monday.

"I hope you celebrate with us this week, laugh with us this week," Sawyer said.

The Good Morning America website says Sawyer's move to World News will mean two of the three major evening network news broadcasts will be anchored by women, setting a precedent in the history of television in the United States.

That new face lift is wonderful and should be good for another 20 years. Go boomers!

Quite the move for ol' Diane.  Smart though, very smart.
