Hugo Chavez Died on March 5, 2013. Chavez Long Believed That the CIA Tried To Assassinate Him. Some Think The CIA Gave Him Cancer.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez died on March 5, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. While Chavez's death seems pretty straightforward to some--he had been in poor health for a while--some wonder if the CIA had something to do with his death.
Buzzfeed compiled a list of tweets from people who think the CIA killed Hugo Chavez.
A story from PressTV seems to capture many of the Hugo Chavez conspiracy theories out there.
For the record, no major media outlet is reporting on Chavez death conspiracies.
That being said, Chavez himself believed that the CIA was out to get him.
Chavez publicly stated that he thought the CIA tried to assassinate him during a trip to El Salvador.
""I am not accusing Obama. I think the American president has good intentions," Chavez said on state television. "But over and above Obama, there is the CIA, and all of its tentacles. I have no doubt US intelligence services are behind this."
Chavez claimed a CIA operative named Luis Posada Carriles had something to do with the alleged assassination attempt.
Here is a bio and photo of Luis Posada Carriles.
Chavez has also suggested that the CIA may have somehow been responsible for giving him cancer.
