DIGGING DIRT

There are incorrigible Pakistan ‘bashers’ They are well known and have become stereo typed as such. Their speculation and criticism is loaded with hearsay with zero facts—a lot of conjecture to create misperceptions. They have difficulty in ever saying anything good about Pakistan. Some are also Pakistanis looking for western approval.

World will have to accept that Pakistan, its people and its institutions have evolved or at least they are evolving in to a stable democratic state. This is hard to digest for its neighbors, the western society and especially for its local media and analyists. Reason for this denial could be that democracy was never present in this country in its true form. Today Pakistan's army has distanced it self from the civil and political scene. This is the most difficult thing for everyone to digest... it is even more difficult to digest than the fact that a democratically elected government is running Pakistan today. Army's stance to stay out of the political arena and at the same time maintain its strength is what has "bored" everyone. Today media, analyists, western govts are all trying to figure out how to deal with this new setup because everyone was used to with the one window shortcut setup called "military dictator" who was always ready to please the forces that be to keep his own backside covered. Today Pakistan  has democracy (which is in no way perfect, but then again where is democracy ever perfect), this democracy is young, evloving and facing  too many challenges from too many direction. If it survives these tests it will evlove in to one of the strongest democracies of the world. This would also mean longlasting stability in the entire region and the world.

Interesting, Pakistan has been forced into a situation where it has to mend its ways and fight for its survival. Ironically, with its survival is deeply linked the stability of the entire region. But Pakistan Military's stance seems appropriate and well calculated..
