The vote in Brazil

Yesterday was a nice day in the city of Campinas, in São Paulo - Brazil. Specially nice to go out and vote for president. That is exactally what we did, at least 80% of us.

When the campaign began political analysts were betting on what polls research showed: Dilma Roussef would win in the first round. It did not happen.

Infact, on a tighter difference, at the beggining of the day no one knew what the result would be, who would the Brazilian people choose. The electronic urns told that in just about 3 hours after their closing.

About 8pm last night we got the answer -  Dilma Roussef is now the new president of Brazil. The first woman president in our history.

The great showgirl of the 2010 presidencial election in Brazil was the electronic voting machine. The whole world was amazed. In just three hours after the polls closed the Brazilians already knew the name of their new president.

At 8:14 pm on Sunday 31st the president of the TSE (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral -Superior Electoral Court), Ricardo Lewandowski, confirmed the election results. Up until now the TSE is regarded by most of the people as a trustworthy institution and so the voting machine is well excepted.
