We did this trek at the time Everest was closed to climbing expeditions from both sides, pressure having been put on the Nepalese government by the Chinese regime - presumably to prevent the possible embarrasment of climbers coming up from the Nepal side and unfurling 'Free Tibet' banners on the top of Everest when the Chinese climbers got up there as part of their Olympic torch propaganda debacle.
