Dixie Carter Dead at Age 70

The feisty star of “Designing Women,” Dixie Carter has died according to her representatives.  She was 70 years old. She made a career out of playing strong southern women in her recent roles. She was most recently nominated for her appearance on “Desperate Housewives.” Carter also played in cabarets and on Broadway.

There are no details on the cause of death, except that she died Saturday morning.

She is survived by her husband Hal Holbrook, whom she married in 1984, and her two daughters, Mary Dixie and Ginna.
