DM Amit Negi seeks prompt solution to problems in Mussoorie
MUSSOORIE, 23 Dec: An intensive discussion was held at a meeting held in the Palika premises during which the public representatives, officials from various departments along with Mussoorie Palika President OP Uniyal and local MLA Jot Singh Gunsola were in attendance.
The meeting began with an interaction in which the invited public representatives put forth the problems of the town. The members of the Palika also vented their ire in front of the DM at the callous attitude and negligence of the officials. Veeru Rawat and Ramesh Bhandari were critical of the Garhwal Jal Sansthan and Urja Nigam. Ramesh Bhandari, member of the Palika, complained that water scarcity in Landour Bazaar and Cantt Board had become the norm and nothing was being done in this regard.
Veeru Rawat, another member of the Palika, also said that the water was being supplied covertly to the big hotels and the poor residents of Landour were kept thirsty by the officials.
DM Amit Negi took serious note of this and directed the officials to solve the problems of the residents within a week. Sushil Kumar, another member of the Palika said that the sewerage problem on South Road had gone out of hands, which needed to be rectified. The Traders’ Association also highlighted the fact that lack of police force in Mussoorie was leading to incidents of burglary in the town and there was resentment among the traders. Gurcharan Chadha and Ravinder Goyal, officials of the Traders’ Association, said that recent incidents of theft had led to a sense of insecurity among the shopkeepers. The DM directed the police officials to increase the force immediately. The problem of parking was also discussed at the meeting where Nagar Palika President OP Uniyal said that the new parking locations had been identified and were awaiting approval. The DM directed the concerned department to begin the work earnestly. He said strictly that encroachment would not be tolerated at any cost. The demand for the stadium at Bhilaru was also raised by the members. The DM took note of it and directed the forest department to act within one week or else the possession would be given back to the Palika within one week. The DM also directed the departments to work judiciously on the issue of Hardy Fall, Kolti Pumping Project, rehabilitation of the street venders, shifting of the Ghorawallahs and beautification of the city through ornamental lighting.
MLA Jot Singh Gunsola was angry at the working of the Palika and said that he should have been consulted beforehand on various issues. He also said that he was ready to provide the shortfall in funds worth Rs 50 lakhs from the MLA fund. He also said that proper identification was required before rehabilitating the street venders on the Mall Road and any misgivings of the Palika would be opposed vehemently.
DM Amit Negi, while speaking to Garhwal Post, emphasised that several problems had come to light at the meeting and, as it was a tourist town needing immediate attention, he had directed the officials to make an estimate and begin the work immediately. He further said that some problems required large funds and would take little time to expedite. He also directed various officials to present him the progress report in one week.
OP Uniyal thanked the DM and said that Mussoorie Palika was working speedily towards solving the problems. He also said that a full report would also be forwarded to the Chief Secretary in this regard.
Harbhajan Thakral, Vijay Ramola, Rajwant Rawat, Shubhasini Barthwal, Kanta Bisht, Santosh Arya, Jasbeer Kaur, Jai Kumar Gupta, Sushil Aggarwal, Nand Lal, Devi Godiyal, Rameshwar Badoni, Ram Prasad Kavi, Surendar Rawat, and officials from various departments were also present at the meeting.
