Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Funny in this day and age, like in our modern Wholesome Group Hug accepting Canadian Society, how some think one oath overtakes another oath, especially since the oath is medical in order to do your job goes out the window when religious beliefs trump your work ethic.

Hmmmmm, wonder if this Doctor in another world had a child who was trapped in a burning building, and a Canadian Firefighter informed him or her, Sorry your Egyptian and  SOL, it is against my religious views to help you.  Okay to some a little far fetched, but I think you get my point.

One can be assured if a Canadian Doctor did this to an Egyptian Immigrant,  certain Canadians and Politicians would be massing protests in the streets, with calls of Discrimination, get Human Rights Tribunal on the Phone, lets go a Suing.

Certainly Hypocritical when Gay and Lesbian rights come into question, only Gay and Lesbians may be the only ones protesting, with the same Canadians feeling uncomfortable to protest a Doctor from another land who was given the opportunity to make Canada his home.

I think most know where I am going with this, do I really need to elaborate?  Canadians are forced to accept Multiculturalism and Diversity by our vote grubbing Politicians.

Yet it seems it must be us who must accommodate  not those who come to our shores looking to pick and choose democracy freedoms which suit their beliefs and are free to do anything, contrary to our Canadian Laws of their own choosing.

It seems nary a peep is forthcoming from the Pro Multicultural and Diversity Politicians and those same self righteous protesters who apparently see nothing wrong in all this. Thus leaving Gays and Lesbians alone to protest.

This my friends is our Canadian society, a society you have allowed to fester in what seems to allow to grow and fester as it is you who gave our Politicians a mandate to create for us.

As I have always said, regardless where you are from or believe, we are all equal and should be treated as such.  Apparently for many, they do not see the Big Picture.

About 30 years ago, gay men who contracted a mysterious disease called AIDS sometimes faced particularly cruel discrimination.

"In those days, you would have found people dying of AIDS in hospital, and you would find nurses effectively telling them this is what you deserve for your lifestyle," says Udo Schuklenk, Ontario research chairman in bioethics at Queen's University. "Similar prejudices were displayed by doctors."

Thank you for this story, Barry! Would you please add the tag "sexuality" to it for it to appear on NowPublic's Human Sexuality feature channel! Thanks!

I agree with Schuklenk that "This is really on the level of primitive personal prejudice.

Also, an interesting read on The origin of AIDS and HIV and the first cases of AIDS.

How come I can't know for sure what I have to infer- that the doctor is a Muslim? Who and what are we trying to protect and, as you said, Barry, if the doctor were Canadian and the patient an Egyptian immigrant, then...?

Shouldn't immigrants (my family as an example in my own life and my decade spent living in Italy) defer to the country to which they aspire full membership, and shouldn't we require it?

The reason that you don't hear about this incident the way you would if the roles were reversed, is that multi-cultural idealists don't want to admit that there are always complementary principles involved in any applied reality.

There is no ideal without a valid counter-ideal. Humans society works best when ideals and counter-ideals are married in harmony.

The counter-ideal here is that multi-culturalism requires an attitude change in its would-be participants, ALL its participants, and not just the dominant majority.

This idealization of the minority is itself a form of racism. We don't expect the minority member to be responsible for himself. We take the guilt onto ourselves.

This demonizes us and puts us in the position of inferiority, ironically enough. We then feel "good" about feeling "bad" about ourselves until we are stuck with the really adverse consequences of this attitude, of which this article is a small example, and the terrorist bombings in London by educated British-born Muslim young men are a better example.

Thanks for the article.  Good information.  You know, prejudice in medicine is nothing new.  Consider the Tuskegee experiments discussed at this link:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuskegee_Syphilis_Study

Besides being used as guinea pigs unknowingly, many African Americans died while in route to a distant hospital that would treat blacks during the Jim Crowe era, having to by-pass whites-only medical facilities in route.

I would say to lesbians, it seems preferable for a doctor to refuse to treat you if he despises you for your sexual orientation rather than to be treated by a physican who masks his irrational hatred.  Homophobia might not be the worst of his problems.

This is most certainly not about "prejudice in medicine", Duo, but rather about "prejudice in Muslim men from Egypt".

Lesbians I know would find that statement of yours about irrational hatred the embodiment of irrationality. What they prefer is what we prefer: that doctors become equal opportunity purveyors of health care and leave their 7th century religious concepts back where they came from.

Thanks everyone for your comments, I put it this way, in Canada, Doctors take an Oath, this Doctor in order to practice in Canada had to take the same Oath, his refusal to administer his services based on Religion shows, He obviously does not care to adhere to Canada's Laws and Norms, but we as Canadians must adhere to our Laws and Norms or suffer lawsuits, harrassment etc.  Either he assimilate into Canada, or leave and go back to Egypt if their Laws are so friggin Groovy.

It would be nice if this were just remote incidences, but it seems everytime you read a paper or watch TV, it appears yet another record of Multiculturalism and Diversity gone wrong, as Canadians sit by and take another hit up the butt.

Like Rosanna Anna Danna used to say, "It's Always Something"!

Here is a video from France Presse, certainly this video will warm the hearts of Multicultural and Diversity Fans, as Citizens of France soon Learn from their Mistakes, and if we in North America are not Careful, this will be our country in a very short time!

What really drives the message home is 7 minutes into the video Carnage like a Gaza Battlefield ensues, and this coming from the Romantic City of Lights~

Huge mob, unemployed? Where I come from people who wear full face masks like that, men or women, are usually bandits, robbers, killers. What makes these people or their brethren exceptions? Nada.

BTW, the video stopped at 6:48 and would not play anymore.

Gays should be careful of using muslim doctors in the first place. They might kill you thru treatment.

This person should not be allowed to be called a doctor of medicine in any civilized society. If he can not live up to his oath of medicine he should be stripped of his license.

0
Barry Artiste

Yeah, but you see Harringtola my friend, if Canada did strip away his licence Canadians would be accused of stripping away his Multicultural rights as well.

Yep, AH, Canada! A land of opportunity, just not an opportunity for ordinary Canadians to express their displeasure over things like this,. lest they be brought up on Hate Law Charges.  Wonder if this Kissy Face Law works the same in his country?

Sue the Muslim Doctor and make him/her defend himself with his religious drivel against homosexuals/lesbians.

Will make more public awareness of Muslim attitude toward gays, and turn the gay activists against this type of behavior.

A doctor takes the hippocratic oath in order to practice - end of story. If he /she does not like it, then strip them of their right to practice, they did'nt sign up to pick and choose.

I sympathise with our colonial cousins. Here in the UK it's worse. Newspapers today reported that a nurse had been fired from her job because she offered to say a prayer for a patient and a cricket  team called Middlesex Crusaders was forced to change their name to the Panthers because it upset Muslims.  (They had been called Middlesex Crusaders since formation 10years ago and the crusaders bit was nothing to do with the crusades of old)

You could'nt make it up.
