U.S Casualties have increased again during this past week.  Here is the update of total casualties as of 10 am 18 September 2009.  The number of Deaths has now risen to 769, which is an increase of `5 over the previous week.  This is is an improvement over last week when 18 were KIA.  August has turned out to be the deadliest month in Afghanistan.

General McChrystal has given his request for additional troops to Admiral Mullen in Ramstein yesterday.  The increase is expected to help in General McChrystal's strategy by placing troops into villages and other urban areas.  The intent is to provide security and win the hearts and minds.  General McChrystal was hand picked for this task by the Obama team.

President Obama is still working on an overall strategy for Afghanistan.  During his election campaign he said that Afghanistan was the center piece for winning the war against Al Quaida.

The leak of the McChrystal report has brought this issue front and center.

There is a lot of opposition to this war from President Obama's constituency.  Secretary Gates was to get McChrystal's request for troops yesterday.  He will keep it secret until the President develops his strategy.
