Does America Suffer From Collective OCD Or Something Far Worse?

What bothers me, is that the American people have gotten many wake up calls throughout the past few years, still many of them remain asleep. What's really scary  is that we've seen how our law maker's failure to exercise proper oversight in conjunction with the "free market" business practices of certain industries can devastate the entire economy, yet voters will continue to vote the status quo.

 Things are extremely complicated nowadays. There are no simple solutions. But the politicians continue to offer simple solutions because they know that Americans are receptive to simple solutions. Solutions typically offered through sound bites and other media gimmicks. In a sense, the American people are enablers, vis a vis their politicians . . . no different from the typical enabler who allows a crazy family member or friend to continue behaving in the same destructive and irrational vein. In other words our law makers do and say the same things over and over again and effect similar policies over and over again and they, together with the American people, expect different and better results.

 We're living in the 21st century, yet the mentality and world view of both the American people and their leaders are stuck in a time warp. There is virtually no innovative and far sighted thought process taking place out there and as a result, much of the world will pass us by.

 There are  many indications that America borders on a collective psychosis and like a person with OCD does the same destructive thing over and over again because it can't help itself. Indeed, we've been fighting wars throughout the Middle East for the past 20 years and complaining about the price of gas and oil for the past 40 years. A similar thing occurs with the economy in that we suffer recessions and consequent high rates of unemployment on a regular basis every few years.

 During election season, the various politicians get up on their soap boxes and tell the American people how they're going to fix things if only the American people will vote for them. And when the politicians get in office, they implement the same policies which have caused the same problems year after year, decade after decade. It's an endless cycle of the same old, same old tried and failed policies, yet the American people think that somehow the same old tried and failed policies will make things better. If that's not insane, then what is?
