This Dog is Voting For Obama

After watching the presidential debates and listening to countless pundits, I believe Barack Obama is the best candidate to serve the needs of Canine Americans.

He is the candidate of hope.  I know this because it said so on all the VOTE FOR OBAMA lawn signs I’ve peed on. (From dogs that’s an act of endorsement, not disrespect.) Understand, my days are spent lying on the front porch waiting patiently for something to break up the monotony of my tired, predictable existence.  Maybe the mailman will arrive early or the neighbor kids will squirt me with the hose or a loud truck will drive by.  Anything!  Understand also that I have no job, no pension and no health insurance.  My future is pretty much guaranteed to be as bleak as the present.  So when a candidate comes along promising change and playing the Hope card is it any surprise I’m taking him up on the offer quicker than an invitation to a kibble convention?  Hope is all I have left! 

I’ve heard all the arguments against Mr. Obama but I’m not swayed by any of them.  Sure, he’ll raise taxes which has been proven again and again to hurt economies in the long term.  I don’t care.  I don’t pay taxes so I don’t have a relative in that hunt. I also don’t care if the US medical system gets socialized and the courts are stacked with liberal judges. All I care about is global warming. God forbid this porch should get any hotter!  Mr. Obama has promised to fight global warming so there you go. No more automated calls, please.

Whether Mr. Obama can make good on his promises is anybody’s guess.  It’s true that he has yet to accomplish anything noteworthy but let me ask you a question: What federal policies did YOU help create?  What Middle-Eastern countries have YOU brokered peace between?  A total lack of experience should not disqualify someone from running the world’s only superpower.  I guess Mr. Obama’s critics would amend the cliche to: “If you work hard you can become President one day but only if that work first amounts to an accomplishment of some sort.” Who defines what an accomplishment is anyway?  Is the person who defined what a accomplishment is now more worthy of being President than Mr. Obama because he accomplished defining a word?

All this is not to say the other candidate does not have attributes attractive to dogs.  Let's not forget the man lived in a cage himself for a few years.  Still, I believe that Mr. Obama is the better candidate.  Everybody who has bothered to stay after Oprah left the stage saw this.  They saw him deliver the perfect stump speech - a passionate promise of hope with scant few details on how he’ll actually do it so as not to confuse us. 

Mr. Obama may not yet have the experience to run a country but he is a young, good-looking individual who can deliver a message that is simple to the point of simplicity.  That makes him a damn fine candidate.  In my opinion, the best.  Which is who we’re supposed to vote for- the best candidate.  That’s why this dog is voting for Barack Obama in 2008.
