Dominique Strauss-Khan Charges 'to Be Dropped'
Dominique Strauss-Kahn Case Collapses: Tristane Banon Charges Remain
The case against embattled former IMF boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn has collapsed, and the prosecution will drop the charges against him, according to the New York Post.
The holes in the alleged victim's story have grown too big, to the extent that even the prosecution won't believe what she says. Both the prosecution and the defense believe that the maid was using rooms at the Sofitel Hotel for prostitution; the defense argues that the maid turned on DSK after he neglected to pay her for services.
We may never know if a sexual assault took place: the District Attorney's job is to bring a case that has a chance of securing a conviction, and the DSK case is not meeting those criteria. This is a classic case of blaming the victim, though, in this instance, the victim's credibility would make or break the case in front of a jury.
However, just because the alleged victim is a liar, that doesn't mean that she also wasn't an actual victim. The maid, in fact, is suing the NY Post for libel, saying that she has never worked as a prostitute.
"Her credibility is so bad now, we know we cannot sustain a case with her," the source said, referring to the Guinean hotel maid who accused Strauss-Kahn of trying to rape her in his plush Midtown hotel suite -- shocking charges that got the international banker bounced as head of the IMF and also derailed, at least for now, his bid to become president of France.
Tristane Banon: Original Accuser
The road to the French Presidency is still not clear for Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Journalist Tristane Banon has also accused DSK of sexual misconduct, alleging that the banker tried to rip off her clothes while behaving like "a chimpanzee [in] heat".
According to Tristane Banon, the altercation took place while she was interviewing Strauss-Kahn for a book about politicians' biggest mistakes.
The alleged assault took place in 2002, and has come to the fore once again in light of his current legal battle.
Banon is yet to press charges, but, if she does, Dominique Strauss-Kahn's lawyers say they'll sue her for slander.
Tristane Banon is close to the Strauss-Kahn family: she is DSK's second wife's god-daughter, and friends with one of Strauss-Kahn's daughters.

I'm sure if Mr. Strauss-Kahn can side step this bs in the U.S., whatever happened in France should be a walk in the park.
