Don't Trust Economists, Financial "Experts", Bankers, Et Al

American economists, financial "experts", stock market analysts, and bankers (to name a few) have been paid (on average and throughout the years), significantly more than American workers that have commensurate experience and education but are employed in other professions. Yet economists, financial "experts", stock market analysts, and bankers (to name a few) are not held to the same strict standards that, virtually, all American workers are held to. Indeed, it appears that economists, financial "experts", stock market analysts, and bankers (to name a few) can get away with virtually anything as evidenced by  the fact that a substantial portion of the government bailout money, doled out to those financial and banking institutions deemed "too big to fail", wound up in the pockets of "too big to fail" workers in the form of bonuses and raises. Economists, financial "experts", stock market analysts, and bankers (to name a few), indeed, have a good thing going while many Americans (those that still have a job) live pay-check to pay-check and struggle to make ends meet.

When a structural engineer signs off to a bridge design, he or she knows full well what the consequences will be if the bridge collapses. And when a civil engineer signs off to a dam project, he or she knows that an entire region can be flooded  and that many lives can be lost if there's  a single flaw in the design. And when a soldier, policeman, nurse, doctor, mechanic, plumber, carpenter, electrician, or any other American working man or woman  screws up, they know what the consequences will be.

Not so with economists, financial "experts", stock market analysts, and bankers (to name a few). They are a protected species--exempt from the economic foibles that they've subjected their fellow countrymen to. They are merchants without a country. They are government sanctioned scam artists. They are corporate welfare recipients and the  biggest welfare cheats of all. They sit at their desks and hunt and peck at their keyboards and torture the statistics until the statistics confess.

You are keeping bad company, Mr Cripps.

If I did not know any better, you are asking for social justice and to bend the capitalistic ideals with social democratic once. :)

I think you might be right. But I bet he won't admit it.

Nanute: I just admitted it! Na na na na na! Don't be a stunad! Minchia! How many times have you seen me imply or explicitly state my aversion to certain actions on the part of capitalists? Certain sectors of the economy need to be watched like a hawk as it were. Especially the financial and banking sectors. Those industries are not to be trusted and they've proven it time and time again. We can't allow a bunch of elitist megalomaniacs in New York and D.C. to tinker with the economy,  the nation's money supply, and the financial markets any way that they see fit which is what they've done and continue to do. What the hell difference does it make to them if there are almost 20 million Americans out of work? In their eyes it's a benefit because it ensures that inflation will remain in check. The masters of the universe sit up in their skyscrapers, look down at the rest of us, and laugh their heads off. And they don't know how lucky they are to live in America: Indeed, if they pulled the crap that they pulled, in some other part of the world, angry mobs would have dragged them out onto the streets, kicked their asses, and hung them from light poles. And quite frankly, if that occurred here, up to a point, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I can't tell you how many devout Christians and Jews I've known that attend church and synagogue on a regular basis. But once they get behind their work desk, they forget all about what they heard the preacher and rabbi say over the weekend. Many of them compartmentalize to such an extent that they actually believe they're adhering to God's law every time they screw somebody out of a buck.

Paschen: I'm a big fan of social justice! Believe it or not, I have a major problem with the actions of capitalists. They can't help themselves and they'll take and take and take until nothing is left to take! In the case of those that work in the financial and banking industries it's like the fox guarding the hen house. Their jobs entail much esoterica and abstract manipulations of data to such an extent that no one outside of their professions has any idea of what they're up to and how what they're up to affects the economy as a whole and the financial system. It's no wonder that they're paid significantly more than those in other professions that possess commensurate skills and experience. If a bunch of economists, bankers, and financiers get together for purposes of feathering their own nests, who is to stop them? And if the feathering of their own nests sends shock waves throughout the economy and causes a recession or depression, it's hard to prove that they had a hand in it due to the esoteric and abstract nature of their economic, financial, and monetary manipulations. And in any event, they can just blame it all on "the economy". Not so with a structural or hydraulic engineer. When the bridge falls into the water or the dam breaks, it's not hard to discover where the fault lies.
