DOWNING STREET SUPPORT FOR CYPRUS REUNIFICATION HYPOCRITICAL – RSF

Republican Sinn Féin have said that the support of Gordon Brown for the reunification of Cyprus is hypocritical, given his opposition to the reunification of Ireland.

A spokesperson for the organisation said:

“Gordon Brown has said that the English government is 'ready to support any process that will result in an indivisible Cyprus.' This is, of course, the same government which seeks to prevent the reunification and freedom of Ireland.

“Whilst Brown claims to be 'committed' to a federal solution for Cyprus, the federal solution for Ireland – Éire Nua – is ignored by the political establishments in London and Dublin.

“Éire Nua provides the only workable solution to the 800-years long occupation of Ireland. It offers a framework for all the people of Ireland to work together for the good of the Irish Nation, following a full and permanent British withdrawal from our country. Continued English rule can only result in further conflict.”
