Heart Surgeon Hasnat Khan has revealed to the Inquest that it was Diana and not he who broke off their relationship. In a prepared statement read to the jury, Dr Khan said he told Diana on her return to London from a holiday with Mohamed Al Fayed and his family that he thought she had "met someone else from the Al Fayed contingent". He alleged this because "Diana was not her normal self", he said.

"I did not know who it was. It could have been a bodyguard or anyone," said Dr Khan. "I was surprised when she said there was no-one else. At a second meeting, she said it was all over between us, but she denied there was anyone else."

Dr Khan said he told Diana he thought "her reputation was dead". But it was only when he heard news broadcasts that he learned about her relationship with Mr Al Fayed's son, Dodi.

In earlier 'evidence' submitted by the now disgraced Paul Burrell, the jury heard that Dr Khan was believed to have broken off their affair because he could not tolerate the publicity attached to her celebrity status. This is now proved to be a misleading impression.

Paul Burrell has always insisted that Diana was still in love with Dr Khan and not Dodi Al Fayed when she was killed but the former royal butler has since admitted he lied to the Inquest to mislead the Coroner and jury. And with Dr Khan now admitting that Diana broke off their relationship weeks before she was killed it is perfectly clear that Diana and Dodi's relationship was genuine and not designed just to make Hasnat Khan "jealous".

At the outset of the Inquest, the supposedly 'impartial' Coroner told the jury that he had doubts about Diana and Dodi's relationship being real....
