Dr. James Dobson, chairman of Focus on the Family, a conservative umbrella organization believed to reach millions through outreach and said to promote conservative moral values, is resigning as chairman from the organization he founded over thirty years ago.

Dr. Dobson will continue to host the organization's radio show and write the monthly newsletter.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, many learned of the organization when, as a joke, Focus on the Family spokespersons said, a video was posted at their website, suggesting visitors pray for rain on the final day of the Democratic convention, held in Denver, Colorado.

Then Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama was scheduled to speak that final evening of the Democratic National Convention, before an assembled audience of thousands, at the domeless stadium there.

The group also posted at its website during the 2008 presidential campaign, Letter from 2012 in Obama's America, an apocalytic assessment of how an Obama presidency would cause the decline of America.

Thanks for this story, Karen. No doubt they are surrounded by hostile territory in the culture. Perhaps they really just don't understand what their part is in creating such hostile territory.

Thank goodness. It's about time. There was little room in Dr. Dobson's theology for anything but the traditional 'man and woman, married once, with children' model of a family and that has always made me sad.

Dear Dr. Dobson,

Thank you for everything you have done in service to our Lord and for the people all over the planet. Thank you for you worthy example and deadication. May the Lord bless you and guide you as you make changes in your direction of service in these next few months. God's very best is my prayer for you and your family and Focus on the Family.

In Christ,

Susan Morey

The author of the letter from 2012 should be ashamed for purveying such vicious fear mongering. The world has not ended and the sky is not falling, no matter what Chicken Little says.
