Dr. Vajinder Pal Toor Murdered by Lishan Wang Outside Home
Dr. Vajinder Pal Toor, a Yale Doctor, Was Murdered by Lishan Wang as He Blamed Him for Being Fired Two Years Ago
Dr. Vajinder Pal Toor was gunned down in front of his Connecticut home on Monday April 26 by a man who blamed Dr. Toor for getting him fired two years ago. Lishan Wang, 44, was an employee at the Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, but was fired, and then tried to sue saying that the Indian doctors at the hospital including Dr. Toor, discriminated against him because he was Chinese.
Lishan Wang was fired because he went missing for a few hours, and then lied to Dr. Toor, who was the Chief Resident, about where he was. His discrimination claim was dismissed. He claimed that the Indian doctors could do what they want and not get disciplined while the Chinese residents were humiliated in meetings and were not even given sick leave.
On Monday, he approached Dr. Toor outside his house where he was standing with his pregnant wife and shot him multiple times. He tried to shoot Dr. Toor's wife, Parneeta Sidhu, as well but she hid behind the car.
Lishan Wang then ran away, but was stopped by police a few miles away.
Parneeta Sidhu could do nothing for her husband and father of their three-year-old son and he bled to death.
"I could barely make out the words - it was a woman, she was just screaming," said neighbor Dawn Eisensmith, 42, who saw the gunman flee in an old red minivan and called 911.
Lishan Wang is now being held on a $2 million bond.
