Drew Peterson, a former police sergeant in Bolingbrook, Illinois, was taken into custody in Chicago on Thursday, in connection with the death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Drew Peterson was charged with two counts; murder and assault in a manner that is expected to cause death. He is currently being held on $20 million bail.
Prosecutors did not offer many new details in an evening press conference on the day of Drew Peterson's arrest in order to avoid tainting the jury pool. A change of venue request by the defense is expected and prosecutors want to keep Drew Peterson in their jurisdiction.
It was revealed that prior court testimony offered by Kathleen Savio herself may be entered into evidence under new laws in Illinois. Previous statements by Kathleen, as well as letters and journals may now be admissible under changes to hearsay rule exceptions.
“I guess I should have returned those library books,” a cuffed Peterson said as state police led him away.
Peterson has been accused of killing both his third and fourth wives.
His fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, went missing in October 2007.
Following her disappearance, the body of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, was exhumed and underwent forensic investigation.
Stacey Peterson, then 23, vanished Oct. 28, 2007, after reportedly telling her minister that Peterson had confessed to killing Savio in 2004.
Prior to his arrest, Drew Peterson had served for 29 years as a policeman and sargeant in Illinois. He had previously been subject to allegations of misconduct and police brutality.
Savio's brother told NBC Chicago that state police notified him of Peterson's arrest.
"Right now we are ecstatic, we are just so happy. He's being arrested for the murder of my sister, Kathleen." Henry Savio said.
Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow is holding an 8:30 p.m. news conference with state police to announce details of the murder indictment.

This happens 2-3 times every 25 yrs. Why dont you come around my neighborhood in South Florida, I would bet money you wouldn't be saying white trash when you hear about a murder , rape , or even armed robbery for that matter.

its been way to long for him to be walking around a free man. last nite took care of that.now the families of both women deserves justice. my opinion.....give him a trail...convict him and immediately fry his ass.otherwise we the taxpayers will be footing the bill for him and many others for 20-25 years until he runs out of appeals and is put to death. i say no more!!!!!!

Having been born and raised in Illinois (Des Plaines) we have always watched how crooked politics, police & judges could be. Although, I now live elsewhere, it is the good, hard working people of Illinois I remember. Glad Drew is one bad smelling fish that did not get away. He does not even deserve to be called a MAN. The DEVIL is waiting for you.

as a mother of four daughters and grand daughter due sept i am terribly frightened of there future everyday and minute from birth all through thier life but this is out of hand may God bless the Savio family and Stacy's family

He is a socio-path. It would be interesting to see what happened in HIS childhood that made him turn out this way. I just finished reading the book Fatal Vows. Wow. I think he did kill Stacey and he threw that blue barrell into the river (can't remember which one, sorry). They tried diving but the river is 24 ft. deep and full of muck. I hope they find her and I hope he goes behind bars for the rest of his life. He is very dangerous. Also, Scott Peterson-Drew Peterson, Lacey Peterson-Stacey Peterson. Wierd!
