Drug Cartels invade Caribbean Island in search of missing Cocaine
HONDURAS MARCH 22, 2010
The village of Diamond Rock, on the tourist island of Roatan has been under near siege from last week when many aparently, foreign Narco paramilitaries, entered the town heavily armed with AK-47's, grenades and RPG's.
Homes, cars and other buildings have been burnt to the ground as the Narcos entered, searched and destroyed.
Firefighters have been unable to assess the scene to confirm any loss of life as the Narcos are still in the area. Honduran special forces COBRA's are now on the island in an effort to secure the area.
It is speculated that a shipment of cocaine and one million dollars in cash went missing when passing through the island and the Cartels have sent this squad to recapture the product and punish those involved.
Honduras has been facing the unfortunate reality that it's location in Central America proves to be the ideal location for the refueling of Narco flights predominantly from Venezuela. Well over 10000 kilos of cocaine had been seized in 2009 alone with 17 planes either captured of found scuttled.
