Drug Saint: Jesus Malverde Gets Facebook Page
"Drug Saint" Jesus Malverde is already a folk hero in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. Jesus Malverde is known as "the angel of the poor", a bandit who was killed by authorities in 1909.Jesus Malverde has become the patron saint of drug traffickers, and is sometimes called "the narco-saint". Though he's immortalized in story and song, there's no actual proof that Jesus Malverde actually existed. Now, however, Jesus Malverde is enjoying new life on Facebook.
Indeed, Jesus Malverde has a Facebook fan page. I'm not sure who created the Jesus Malverde fan page or when, but he has nearly 500 fans so far. Facebook users are leaving messages of prayer, thanks, or enquiry.
This is just a suggestion, but if you're in the narco trade, be sure that you are not a fan of Jesus Malverde on Facebook. That sort of thing can attract law enforcement attention.

A great resource to learn more about the folk-saint Jesus Malverde, as well as other folk-saints, is Folk Saints of the Borderlands: Victims, Bandits, and Healers by James S. Griffith .
