Duchess Camilla, the wife of British throne heir Prince Charles, was slammed by animal rights protection group PETA for wearing animal skin during her ongoing visit to Canada. The Duchess wore an animal skin scarf as part of her dress during a visit to the Cupids Cove Plantation Archaeological site in Canada. Her hat was also trimmed with fur, but the royal couple's spokesperson speculated that the fur was not real.

Peta - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - said the Duchess was out of step with public opinion. A spokeswoman for the organisation said: "Since no one who is anyone wears real fur any more, and certainly no one attuned to the overwhelming disgust of the public about fur, one has to ask did one of her dogs drag this poor animal home?

A spokesman for the Duchess, who topped off her stylish green tweed outfit with a hat that had a fake fur trim, said: 'She has had it for years and it was very cold.'

This comes in the wake of the incident involving Queen's Representative Canadian Governor General Michaelle Jean, who ate seal's heart offered by Inuit hunters on her visit to Nunavut this year. Jean's actions also drew a lot of criticism from animal rights activists.

Of course PETA would criticise any wearing of fur.  But think, if it's ok to wear leather why isn't it ok to wear fur.

Thanks, Barbara. I think in this case she was criticized for wearing the skin scarf, because her hat fur was fake.
