Counterterrorism forum excludes Israel despite state’s record of suffering terrorist attacks“Despite pleas from Senators on Capitol Hill, the Obama administration excluded Israel from a new counterterrorism forum and neglected to mention its long and deadly struggle with terrorism during remarks presented yesterday in Spain.
Maria Otero, the State Department’s Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, delivered a speech entitled “Victims of Terrorism” before 29 members of the Global Counterterrorism Forum, an coalition of countries—not including Israel—that collectively combat terror.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sparked a controversy in June when she announced the coalition’s formation and neglected to include Israel on a list of countries that perpetually struggle with terror attacks. It is widely believed that Israel was overlooked as a member due to the opposition of Turkey, which has increasingly been at odds with the Jewish state.
Congressional sources and regional experts say that the Obama administration is intentionally downplaying Israel’s struggle with terrorism in order to appease and gain the cooperation of Arab nations that are often hostile to the Jewish state.”

I guess the Israeli can take another hit in the battle against Islamist terrorism. I mean do we really need to include a nation surrounded by active terrorism and hate-filled anti-Jewish propaganda in a global forum on the subject? Not in the name of appeasement you don't. And not by a person, who as Obama did, declare he understood all about Israel's problems and Judaism because he read about them. [head shake]

NP has become a disaster. The best have gone and the rest are apparently paranoid schizophrenics or so heavily biased in the opinions they write that any actual conversation on the issues isn't allowed. Even the staff writers are simple re-posting fluff pieces and when it's not PC to question the social assumptive they turn off the ability to comment.
Tell me. How are things with the North Africans migrating through Israel on their way to the EU working out? It's left the media stream. Also I'd like to know if there has been any more Syrians moving south away from the conflict in the interior and how or if that is affecting the local socio-political culture.
Keep the faith. Times change..... eventually. :-)

Since we have put up a fence on the Egyptian border less North Africans are entering illegally. However, we have a very difficult situation with over 60,000 that have come here by way of Sinai and are struggling. Some are being re-repatriated with incentives. The Government is only finally addressing the issue after years of neglect. Most have come here for purely economic reasons.
Syria is a very scary situation. Today Damascus was bombed and heavy fighting is going on. There is a very big FEAR that Assad will use WMD's in the form of chemical weapons against his own people. Also, great concern that some of these chemicals will fall into terrorist hands. It appears Israel is watching this very closely. I have no doubt that if it appears that these weapons will directly threaten Israel they will act.
NP used to be a place of intelligent and interesting reporting. Currently it has become a wasteland of paranoia and fluff.

Yes Syria is becoming a bit of a nightmare. I was watching a Canadian news talk video that had a Muslim fellow in explaining the Anti-Christian attacks going on in Syria. Then they brought up that fellow in Tunisia who had converted from Islam to Christian the other day and had a angry mob chop his head off in the street. According to this Muslim fellow the Syrian Christians are very fearful of the collapse of the Assad regime, believing that the extremist will move in to fill the void. They fear the Syrian Christian will come to be targeted and killed like the Egyptian Copts.
My opinion is Obama should have put more thought into champion the collapse of the Assad regime. I guess he thought it would be quick and dirty like Libya and he could claim a political victory. One would think our experience in Iraq would moderate such interference or at least what's happening in Egypt.
Thanks for the email. You're not leaving NP too are you?

to the 1:
I am not so sure the U.S. has the strength to actually prevent Iran from doing anything. Especially with an election year.

That might actually be exactly what you do see (military action), because it is an election year..
It also suggest Israel and the US are still on the same page..

The 1,
Hopefully you are right. I see nothing on this end to suggest otherwise. In spite of some minor background noise.
