Dumbed down media coverage in Gaza and elsewhere -

 The tabloid media,  has become a quick fix for those who will not read . Cartoons would inform these readers better if the content were right. You and I would be deemed intellectual snobs for talking about Rubert Murdoch's readers in this manner.

The tabloids succeed with an audience by and large under 40 who want the buzz words and the sketch and the dots. they fill in the rest with their bombastic self assurance. The " You're Worth It " cosmetic advertisement informs their rhetoric . They feed into the ubiquitous  audience who suffer from a collective Adult  Attention Deficit Disorder.

But we persevere . And despite the loudest put- downs from those who are so blind - for they will not see- we are obliged to articulate the world we inhabit as we see it.

John Pilger has coined the phrase " Murdochisation of News "- referring the the epynomous Rupert of the tabloid empire.

I would think he , and Robert Fisk , the BBC worls service, and the International Hearld Tribune are as yet uncontaminated - but we are all being manipulated whatever we read .

That is why I have written the Moses piece to a putative GBW supporter.

A history professor acquaintance once told me that his first lesson to his students about history involves this challenge. He asks them to watch a recent TV story about some local issue .
When the TV reporter gets to the point where he says " and the back ground to this story is.. " - Stop right there he tells them. Ask yourself now. Who wrote this " background "- that's history.
Im thinking here also about the history of Europe - History is also written by the victors over the vanquished.
We hear very little about the Dresden bombing by the Royal Air Force and Allies - but hear everything about the Battle of Britten - the bombing of London.And of course the story of Oppenheimer and the Manhattan project - then Nagasaki
Equally , John Mc Cain is a war hero; But no one asks " Hey John - How many innocent gooks did you bomb before you were shot down - did you use Agent Orange .."..it goes on.
To Vietnamese , Mc Cain was just another indiscriminate bomber .
His judgment depends on whoever writes the background.
