Thirty four civilians killed in early morning SLA shelling [ Thursday, 19 February 2009, 07:23.24 PM GMT +05:30 ] In early morning shelling today, Thursday, in Iranaipalai and Puthukkudiyiruppu thirty four civilians were killed and scores were injured.

In Iranaipalai-Anathapuram areas SLA shelling around 2.00am killed ten civilians and injured nearly seventy. Three children under five from one family with serious burn injuries were among the injured.
A further 24 civilians were killed in Puthukudiyiruppu in shelling at 1.00am by the SLA. The families buried the bodies on the spot unable to do anything else.
In the meantime we wish to make a correction to our news report of yesterday 18 February. One prisoner of war and not three as reported here yesterday were killed in yesterday’s aerial attack. The name of the PoW killed is Ajith Samankumara aged 22 of Arachchcikaddiwa, Puttalam.
