Earth Day April 22 2010: Companies Offer Free Deals to Promote the Day
Earth Day is no longer so much about saving the earth it seems, but is another day of advertising and marketing for companies. So while you turn off your lights or pledge to recycle more or walk to work, if you like you can also take advantage of the free or discounted deals being offered.
Disney's new movie Oceans is opening on Earth Day 2010 and to promote the movie Disney Earth is offering a free hat worth $15 to children who bring in six plastic bottles or cans to be recycled to their nearest Disney store. The hats are made from organic materials though.
Pottery Barn for Kids are giving away free plants to children from 11 am to 2 pm.
Stonyfield is offering a deal that if you go on to their website and share what you are going to do for Earth Day 2010, you will get a free MP3 download of a Jack Johnson song.
Wegmans Supermarket chain is not celebrating on Earth Day, but on Saturday April 24 where they will be giving their customers free reusable bags when they bring in plastic bags from 11 am to 3 pm.
Over at Walgreens, they have decided to refill printer cartridges for $1 with a coupon. Just get the coupon on their website.
Burt's Bees will be handing out free samples of their smoothies but in Times Square only.
All National Parks in the United States that usually charge a fee for entrance are going to be free from now until Sunday April 25.

I think anything that brings more awareness to Earth Day, being mindful of the environment and our impact on it is a positive idea.
