Many aftershocks in the soutwest part of iceland.
All around 1 to 1,8 ,but one aftershock ,was 3,9
No reported damages ,but the power went of Grindavik,a township close to the quake.
That is being fixed.

Did you feel it yourself? Is it common for Iceland to have earthquakes?

I hope there hasn't been much damage done!

I noticed that there have been a few bigger quakes (over 3) near Grindavik in the past couple of days and the hot springs were unaccessible last week (visited them in 2007 and tried last week). Is there more seismic activity than normal at the moment?! Something big coming...?

Sara Star -i did not feel the quake last night ,but Iceland is an volcanic island - and we have active volcanos here and earthquakes are common.
In 1963 ,few miles from the Westamnn islands, there was a volano under the sea,and it reached the surface ,and now there is an island there ,Surtsey.
Here is a video about its formation.

And in 1973 ,there wasa a volconic eruption in Westmannaeyjar, and island just south of Iceland, and it was in the town of Westmannaeyjar.
They had to evacuate the island in ( 5000 people ) just a few hours.
No casualties.
Here is a link to a video about that .

And when the astronouts went to the moon - they came to iceland to practice - that was the closest you can get to the moon on our little planet
