There's lots of ways to spend Easter, let's talk about some.

To start, why not brush up on some of the history.

For those with a yen for the traditional--and the ability to fly around the world, perhaps--the Pope is holding a Good Friday service at St. Peter's.  Old school and undeniably authentic.

Art appreciaters might want to check out this collection of art pertaining to Good Friday.  Warning: a lot of it has to do with capital punishment.

Ever wonder how Norwegians spend Easter?  They read crime fiction.

How about Europe?  Here's a country by country breakdown.

The holiday can get somewhat heavy--it pertaining to the salvation of humankind and all--so here's some light-hearted but vaguely inappropriate Easter humor to lighten the mood.

How will you be spending your Easter holiday?  How have you spent it in the past?  Do you have longstanding traditions or do you wing it every year?  Is your celebration traditionally Christian or are you a heathen?

Let us know in a comment below, and don't forget to upload some photos while you're at it. Happy Easter.

This pic was taken on Easter last year... And we're in my mom's kitchen, not in a torture chamber. She's collected some very um, *interesting* old-timey kitchen utensils.

What am I doing for Easter...

we actually recently started going to church again after taking a few years off. So we'll be attending a service for the first time in 4 years. I grew up Episcopalian, my husband is Presbyterian... we did it my way for 10 years and now we're going to his style of a church.

I believe there's a church or a community out there for everyone. real super into it or kind of loosy goosey... I hope that people find a place they're comfortable, where their philosophies are welcome, where their thoughts are challenged and they can think and grow.

We'll also dye eggs, and go hiking, as long as the weather is cooperative.

Joy to the world, He is risen, He is risen indeed.

Well, it makes about as much sense as a chocolate rabbit!

Not being in any way, shape or form religious I always found Easter a somewhat confusing holiday when I was growing up.

Mercifully being given no parental or institutional direction whatsover in that department I was entirely free to work out my own personal holiday observations.

1) Watch a movie or read a book about the Roman Empire. Preferably one that has nothing to do with Jesus. Unless it's "The Life Of Brian". In my usual contrary way, the spate of heavy handed Easter movies set in Judea only succeeded in inspiring in me a life long fascination with classical Rome. On the one hand you've got loaves of bread, fish, sermons, testaments and well...more fish. On the other, gladiators, complicated political machinations, orgies, pagan splendour and writers like Tacitus, Juvenal and Caesar. Well, stroll on jolly old SPQR!

2) He Died For Our Sins, they tell me, so as a gesture of universal tolerance to Christianity and its Imaginary Friends I reckon it's up to us to keep up our end of the bargain.

So, eat lots of chocolate!

Doesn't get any more sinful than that.

My partner actually cracked me up this year when I once again expressed bewilderment about the whole chocky/Easter connection.

"The Christian thing is overlayed across an older fertility festival. Chocolate makes women happy and when they're happy they're much more likely to get fertilised."

What can I say, she's a farmer's daughter...

3) Play Tom Wait's "Chocolate Jesus" on my radio show as well as an audio tribute to rabbits and eggs.

4) Take a giant non-existent wabbit to dinner. (Harvey! Or Donnie Darko. Perhaps even Night Of The Lepis or Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Or the monster in Monty Python & The Holy Grail, or of course, Curse Of The Were Rabbit!)

5) Most importantly, Downunder in Australia, Easter is yet another excuse for the only religious observance that realy matters...the most Sacred Rite Of The Long Weekend Holiday !!

So, aveagoodweegend!

Or in context, aveagoodegg!

This is an Easter Lamb that my girlfriend and her son decorated. It's a family tradition. Margaret's mom makes the lemon cakes in the shape of the lamb and then ships them out to a few different folks. The fleece is made of coconut. The eyes are made of cloves and the nose is a maraschino cherry. Margaret's Tucson cousins convert theirs into a dog and they have a different decorating theme each year. Margaret and Antonio stick with keeping it as a lamb.

I am spending my Easter with my Mom. I've got her a Easter egg and she got me a big chocolate bar. I would visit my father too, but I called and there was no one at home... I usually spend this holiday with my family...

Easter is a story of rebirth and we decided to celebrate by visiting the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, where the wildflowers are in bloom and the desert is renewing itself.

The colanders were just hanging in the kitchen while we were baking the ham, but the plum pie was the real treat of the day. We may have started a new Easter tradition at our table. It was outstanding.

A friend had a tea yesterday and served, among other things, wonderful cherry tarts. So what did I do for Easter?

A tea and tarts celebration!    ;}
