Economic Collapse Will End US Militarism
Opinion: You know those overused phrases right? Those quips like 'What goes around comes around'; 'Karma is a bitch'; 'You reap what you sow'; the trite off the cuff sayings about shared human morality that used to hold some wisdom, but have long since become empty verbiage? I'm sure if you thought for just a moment you'd come up with another cliché in the same vein, that you could say out loud and then laugh at how stupid it sounds, how meaningless it has become.
How about 'The bigger they come the harder they fall.'
I hope all of you in the USA are ready because Karma really is a bitch, and Ezekiel's Wheels are spinning out of your control, and the weight when they come to ground on America is going to hurt more than anything you can imagine. The gods of Mammon you have raised up will not be kind and millions of you have begun to feel the financial pain. You will not only lose your economic advantages in the fall to come, but harder to bear will be the loss of your illusions about your morality, your superiority, your supremacy, and your vaunted exceptionalism. As in your blind aggressions in foreign lands the innocent within America will be collateral damage. None but those of you who have so blatantly looted your country's coffers will be spared in the coming economic conflagration, and those vultures will simply flee to their international redoubts and leave you to your wretched misery.
Most Americans know instinctively, beyond the fog of flag-waving and hollow hymn singing, deep in their souls, that the invasion and occupation of Iraq is a crime of monstrous proportions, one committed in their name, with their permission, by those they elected and those they armed and equipped, a crime they could end at any time but do not. Any student of history also recognizes this aggression to be just the latest in a series of heinous crimes committed on innocents around the globe by the modern world's most egregious and dangerous country, a country once blessed, now drunk on power, cursed with addictions to venality, gangsterism, careless obese consumption and usury the likes of which has never been witnessed before. With so much original promise squandered, America has allowed itself to become a vampire culture, consuming all it touches including its own natural wealth, its principals and institutions, its legacy, and in a final maddened act of social cannibalism devouring the future of its young and itself.
Poetic blind justice is about to render her verdict there in the land of the 'light on the hill', the Camelot of histories most brutal and deluded killer culture. Not one country has had the strength to stand against American weapons and legions as they have killed millions in brutal aggressions over the last hundred years, but the USA has sown the seeds of its own destruction in the wanton, neo-liberal capitalism it has inflicted on the entire world, in the cost of its endless military adventures, in the social Darwinism that underpins American 'morality' and theology and therein lies the self-administered poison that has rotted out the heart and guts of America and signals its inevitable demise.
We know that the distress of this impending collapse in the US economy will extend into Canada and abroad, and that it will be very tough, and with the consequences clearly seen most global citizens stand ready to bear the suffering of this most necessary cure. A small price to pay for the future of our planet and our children, for those who are dying and will die under the guns of your young murderers in far-flung countries; a pittance in pain to finally be freed from all facets of this terminal malignant made-in-USA malady! It is finally becoming obvious even to Americans that the USA has swallowed the poison pill which as we speak brings on the systemic failures which will ultimately silence the ravening dogs of war and deadly consumption that exude across the 49th parallel and around the world, a plague that left to continue its feral spread unchecked would be the end of all of us.
For you Americans who see the rot that pervades your country and your culture, we feel pain and comradeship but the cleansing must take place. The alternative is not something that humanity or the biosphere as we know it can survive.
Mike Whitney and Layla Anwar, an Iraqi living in Baghdad spell it out for you in the following editorial:
“Come and see our overflowing morgues and find our little ones for us...
You may find them in this corner or the other, a little hand poking out, pointing out at you...
Come and search for them in the rubble of your "surgical" air raids, you may find a little leg or a little head...pleading for your attention.
Come and see them amassed in the garbage dumps, scavenging morsels of food...
Come and see, come..." "Flying Kites” Layla AnwarThe US Military has won every battle it has fought in Iraq, but it has lost the war. Wars are won politically, not militarily. Bush doesn't understand this. He still clings to the belief that a political settlement can be imposed through force. But he is mistaken. The use of overwhelming force has only spread the violence and added to the political instability. Now Iraq is ungovernable. Was that the objective? Miles of concrete blast-walls snake through Baghdad to separate the warring parties; the country is fragmented into a hundred smaller pieces each ruled by local militia commanders. These are the signs of failure not success. That's why the American people no longer support the occupation. They're just being practical; they know Bush's plan won't work. As Nir Rosen says, “Iraq has become Somalia”.
The administration still supports Iraqi President Nouri al Maliki, but al-Maliki is a meaningless figurehead who will have no effect on the country's future. He has no popular base of support and controls nothing beyond the walls of the Green Zone. The al-Maliki government is merely an Arab facade designed to convince the American people that political progress is being made, but there is no progress. Its a sham.

First thing - I kind of find it odd you are saying America was once such a great place. I mean, if you look on Iraq as a "crime against humanity" then what about "Manifest Destiny?" We still own that land and, in fact, I am writing this in a part of the territory won through war with Mexico. You claim America to have once been idyllic only to advance your argument, not because you really believe it to be true.
And my other problem with what you're saying is that it is completely against everything the left has said since its inception: poor economic situations push people into more violence. According to the left, the reason why anyone joins al Qaeda is because America has gone into their backyards and made them poor. And yet they find a way to fight a war with us.
If America were to be thrust into economic ruin wouldn't it make sense for us to use our greatest bargaining chip, our nukes, to rain hell-fire on the countries of the world to expand our "empire." Looking at this dispassionately I would have thought that you (especially you) would be rooting for America's continued economic prosperity.
Seriously, think about this, according to you America went into Iraq for oil. If America was more economically sound with regards to oil would we have gone in? What would happen if America became so poor that it's people couldn't get their hands on something that only China or Russia or Venezuela or any other country has? Wouldn't it make sense that an America in an economic depression would fight until the bloody end?
According to your geopolitical theories the only logical conclusion would be for America to become more war-like, not less. Look back at the reason for WWII: Nazi Germany was extremely poor and needed to expand its empire to get more wealth. The Japanese needed to expand because it was running out of resources.
Why, according to your theories, would America react differently if it faced a tough economic situation? Instead of being gleefull at the prospect of an economically defunct America you should be very wary because, correct me if I'm wrong, Canada is like a pinata filled with natural resources. BEWARE!
Just remember that even before we were a nation we had our sights set on Canada. We have even attacked your country a couple of times. Would you bet that we wouldn't do that again if we went into a serious economic depression? Don't ask for whom the bell tolls, moonwolf....
Good stuff.

Thanks for stepping in BIG T,
First I request you contemplate that your distinction 'left' and your views about my politics and beliefs, of which you know nothing, are totally off the mark. This is due to your viewpoint and thinking being horrendously skewed having evolved in isolation to what is going on outside the USA. Everything you say is totally Amerocentric and bears no relevance to what is actually going on or to what others believe outside the delusional incestuous hotbox that passes for a political and global discourse down there. From out here there is no such thing as "the Left" in the USA. In the view of the rest of the world the political spectrum in the USA runs from ultra-conservative through fascist, with the fascist currently dominating.
But the billions of global citizens who are not Americans must all be wrong wouldn't you say?
As to your contention that America will attack Canada or start throwing nukes around I call bullshit to both. Without money you will all be fighting amongst yourselves for what is left, and though you like to view yourselves as courageous the USA only fights when it has a huge advantage, and still can't win when fighting with overwhelming firepower. The whole point of the article is that without the money your corrupt military empire collapses. Not one person in the USA thinks for one moment that if your President pushed The Button the Russians and the Chinese wouldn't turn America into a glass lake from sea to boiling sea. You guys don't have the stomach for suicide missions.
Finally, and I won't couch it in humour the way Barry does, any attack on Canada would be the last military attack ever taken on by your country. Canada is not a backward Middle Eastern country full of ill-equipped starving people. We have an adequate supply of weapons and we have some advantages that would have you losing to a much smaller force. Canada is big enough to drop two USAs into and we have one of the worst climates and toughest terrains on the globe, both which we are intimately familiar with and on which your pampered troops would fall in their thousands. Remember what happened to the Germans when they attempted to invade Russia?
Your little high-tech machines, and drones and tanks would last into the first snowfall and then what? You think you could mount an invasion with any hope of success at minus 40 degrees in the winter and plus thirty in the mosquito and fly infested muskeg or the mountains of BC and Alberta, or the millions of square miles of dense forest on the Canadian shield? I don't think so. And where exactly would you be getting your fuel? Oh yes, I forgot, we supply more of your gas and oil than any other country, and without money and the support of your other erstwhile 'allies' you'll all be walking and driving bicycles. High tech paper weights is all your machinery would be. We have enough oil, snowmobiles, ATVs, weapons, have prospered in this harsh place for two centuries and our troops have always taken on the heavy lifting in every war we have fought in, instead of coming in at the last minute to accept the accolades. Nope, I've gotta say that over time it wouldn't even be a fair fight, we'd kick your butts back over the 49th parrallel and maybe even follow your ill, starving, fleeing troops onto your turf!
Now it wouldn't be me doing the fighting, because I am a pacifist and much too old, but I have spoken to many of our rugged young people and there is no doubt in my mind that it would be a fatal error to ever attempt an invasion of Canada, even if your country had the money and time, which after what is about to befall you you won't have. Pound for pound we are tougher, hardier, and in this case would be far more determined than you.
You see, what you wrote here was more than adequate proof again that what is coming down on America must be allowed to happen. Such hubris!
As to suffering in what is to come, yes we will and we deserve it. We hitched our horse to your wagon in many ways and as such are complicit. We're ready though, and will find our humility, resilience and stamina and will work together and get through it.
Co-operation and humility, hmmmmmm.....
You guys should try it sometime!

Since you speak for the "billions of world citizens" then I will tell them through you, their agent, that yes, they're all wrong. I still have to wonder why any of these forward thinking world citizens would ever want to come to the United States if they think we're just a bunch of incestuous rubes. Funny.
Secondly, when I said that an economic collapse in America would lead to us lashing out I was making this point from your perspective. Some (like you) have said that a lack of economic opportunity (percipitated by American intervention) has forced them into attacking American interests. So why wouldn't America follow in kind?
And with regards to attacking Canada I thought I was being tongue and cheek enough for you to realize I was joking. But if we did attack you with our pampered troops we would win. (And why just talk about the Germans failing in Russia, why not talk about the French? Perhaps I'm wrong because, like you said, I'm an American and I don't know anything about what is going on outside my borders so I must be wrong about the French being devastated by the Russian winter.)
One last thing moonwolf. I am completely alarmed at the jingoist tone of your comment. All I heard was "Canada this" and "Canada that". I tremble at the thought of a bunch of hearty Canadians raining down on our country in retalliation to our 21st-Century manifest destiny overreach and when someone like you is making threats... I'm scared, that's all.
Well, not all that scared seeing as your country (and the affable Barry will back me up on this) is surrendering its culture to a bunch of foreigners. Yeah, I know, when I say "surrendering" you would say "accepting." But maybe your vitriol against America (again, I was just joking, our plans for attacking Canada aren't for another ten years, 5 years at the earliest) should be directed to the outside world that you know so well. Canada's culture is going to be gone before anyone attacks it.
One last thing, I swear, you should try a little less humility. You don't look old! I can see you with your beaverskin (maybe even synthetic beaverskin) hat bringing the pain down on America.

Ignorance must be bliss. How do you think Americans have enjoyed such a good economic times? Your nation has prospered on the backs of the rest of the world including Canada. Your money is fake and based on a non-renewable resource and not on gold or silver as it should be. You think your country is so great because you have been brainwashed. America is full of Fat, Ignorant, Lazy and warlike people, I have been there. Once America cannot finance it's war machine look out because there are other nations that have been patiently waiting for you guys to over-extend yourselves and it is happening NOW. So wake the hell up. I'm not happy to tell you this as my country is going down with you guys thanks alot. Invading Canada isn't going to save your asses. America needs to get beat-down just like all bullies before it will change its attitude. Do you ever think about the 5 billion other souls on the planet? or were you taught that we don't matter? 5 billion vs 300 million? hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

No reply needed. And if you want to insult the greatest country to ever grace God's green earth why don't you take the "not verified" mask off and actually stand up for what you just said. If you don't then I would say it is cowardly.

moonwolf, I like this story. It's good stuff. As Big T quoted "Just remember that even before we were a nation we had our sights set on Canada. We have even attacked your country a couple of times." Big T should know one time when the US was a country Colonial Canada we marched on Washington and Burned down the White House, Capital buildings and other Buildings, torched them so bad that the granite and marble remained and was schorched so bad they were painted White to hide the Burn marks. Hopefully as two countries we are past that. But a lesson learned for the US that a Canadian with a Belly full of Beer, and a Zippo is a threat to be dealt with. We nowd where yew is, cuz we gits R traler home fixd thar. Right Skeeter? Iffen pushin comes ta shovin, Skeeter'll git his saltgun, and We's gitten in ur Pickup, complit wut deliverance music on ur 8 track, We is also bringin ar Coonhound Monty, grandma fer spponin on them cold virginny nights, wit lotsa "Liquid curage moonshine" fer gittin liquered up, and a Zippo, cuz we's dont take kindly to threats fum ur cusins, no siree bob.
Beesides makup sex is tha best!

This is a good discussion. beautifully written, Moonwolf.
BigT certainly has a point! .
..and Barry Artiste's a good comedian.
Personally, I know there IS a better way to run a country - any country. Maybe desperation will 'allow' change from within. I won't elaborate here.
The following 2002 article is very relevant to this discussion.

Dick Cheney’s Song of America
By David Armstrong
Harper's Magazine, 0017789X, Oct 2002, Vol. 305, Issue 1829
Excerpt:
Few writers are more ambitious than the writers of government policy papers, and few policy papers are more ambitious than Dick Cheney’s masterwork. It has taken several forms over the last decade and is in fact the product of several ghostwriters (notably Paul Wolfowitz and Colin Powell), but Cheney has been consistent in his dedication to the ideas in the documents that bear his name, and he has maintained a close association with the ideologues behind them. Let us, therefore, call Cheney the author, and this series of documents the Plan.
The Plan was published in unclassified form most recently under the title of Defense Strategy for the 1990s, (pdf) as Cheney ended his term as secretary of defense under the elder George Bush in early 1993, but it is, like “Leaves of Grass,” a perpetually evolving work. It was the controversial Defense Planning Guidance draft of 1992 – from which Cheney, unconvincingly, tried to distance himself – and it was the somewhat less aggressive revised draft of that same year. This June it was a presidential lecture in the form of a commencement address at West Point, and in July it was leaked to the press as yet another Defense Planning Guidance (this time under the pen name of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld). It will take its ultimate form, though, as America’s new national security strategy – and Cheney et al. will experience what few writers have even dared dream: their words will become our reality.
The Plan is for the United States to rule the world. The overt theme is unilateralism, but it is ultimately a story of domination. It calls for the United States to maintain its overwhelming military superiority and prevent new rivals from rising up to challenge it on the world stage. It calls for dominion over friends and enemies alike. It says not that the United States must be more powerful, or most powerful, but that it must be absolutely powerful.
The Plan is disturbing in many ways, and ultimately unworkable. Yet it is being sold now as an answer to the “new realities” of the post-September 11 world, even as it was sold previously as the answer to the new realities of the post-Cold War world. For Cheney, the Plan has always been the right answer, no matter how different the questions.

Thanks Mareid,
I agree with you completely. Canadians would help anyone who has the guts to admit they have messed up and wants to try a different way. The current US way is simply unsustainable, and thus unfortunately until they actually GET IT, take power away from the lunatics they continue to elect and punish them adequately, close their international military bases, stop attacking other countries, take responsibility for their past, and begin to behave as good global citizens instead of conquering madmen we will just have to isolate them.

How prophetic Rev. Jeremiah "moonwolf" Wright!
Is there no salvation? Is there no place on earth to flea from this sinful nation? Perhaps a sinless Canada?
My gosh...any houses for sale in your neighborhood? I just may become your neighbor!
Will you even accept.....gulp!....AMERICANS into your country!?
Those Americans that are the number one source of relief efforts to the impoverished and striken in the world! Those Amercians whose President Bush is considered a hero in many parts of Africa for his AIDS relief push! Those Americans who do not strap on bombs to themselves to kill innocents!
I feel so ashamed!
One thing I will grant you is that Americans can be arrogant...and they need to be a bit more humble...especially because sensitive types such as yourself find arrogance such a defining character.
at 09:29 on April 16th, 2008
There is no salvation without repentance brother Ruski, so get down on your knees and beg the Lords forgiveness, only then will He give you absolution and free you from the torment of your sins! AYYYYMEN!
You're most welcome to become my neighbour but in doing so you play by our rules and you might not like that. You'd have to prove yourself before we'd let you stay. We have lots of ex-Americans living here. They moved here to escape life down there.
As to the whole myth about relief efforts it doesn't hold up under even light scrutiny. US corporations in cahoots with your government, read Gang as in Al Capone type, and the CIA destabilize, loot and impoverish a country and then the US government makes a big show of throwing a few crumbs to the starving masses. Do some research. What you have given back is nothing but a pittance compared to the cost of your corporate, covert and overt political interference and outright military attacks on countries and peoples around the planet.
The drawbacks and costs of maintaining your bankrupt economy are quickly outweighing the benefits for the Chinese and the other global creditors who hold your worthless paper and ultimately your fate in their hands. You no longer call the shots.
at 10:09 on April 16th, 2008
We are only seen as arrogant to those in the "international community" who feel castrated because they know America is the most important country in the world. They see themselves as this perfectly evolved man (although they will say things like "we have a lot to learn from others who are less fortunate") and, as moonwolf's mocking comment to you proves, they look down on America because we still believe in GOD. The internationalists view themselves as gods and, only if everyone would just accept their unique ownership of wisdom and knowledge, the world would be a better place.
What is truly the most astonishing (and dare I say frightening?) thing is that these internationalist intellectuals truly believe in (again, as moonwolf says in his response to your comment) conspiracy theories.
Yeah, we went sent a ton of money to help with the tsunami in order to control them. And we are single-handedly saving many Africans from AIDS to what exactly? So we can steel from them more efficiently?
at 11:03 on April 16th, 2008
The term important can refer to either 'good' important' or 'bad, threat' important. In the case of the USA we know which one is relevant, and that is nothing to be proud of, nor is it anything we will put up with for much longer.
If you actually believed in God you would really be down on your knees praying for his forgiveness, and if there is one he is going to visit more misery on the USA than any other group of people on this planet. Get ready for spin into the fire! Your country has broken and continues to break all of the Ten Commandments with a brazen arrogance and ferocity unseen since Rome and we all know what happened to Rome don't we.
As to AIDS there is a court case moving through the courts in California that alleges, with a strong body of evidence to support the lawsuit, that AIDs is actually an artificial virus created by, guess who? Yup, the USA. It's going to be interesting when the case becomes very public.
at 11:10 on April 16th, 2008
It's funny how people who don't believe in God (and I'm not sure whether you do or not, you probably like to describe yourself as agnostic and willing to believe if you are given something to believe in just so you can keep up your "moderate" credentials) and ridicule those for their beliefs turn around and say that if there is a God that they would surely smite the heck out of those of us who do believe in God. Oh well, you do have all the answers since you live a couple of miles North of America's border with Canada (our intelligence is obviously rubbing off on you ;)).
How can a country commit adultery? Since I am just a simple American rube, I guess I just don't know how God's laws, which apply to individuals, works on the geo-political level. Boy, am I backwards!
As to AIDS, if that case you mentioned is overturned will you recant your conspiracy theory and say America did not thrust AIDS on an unexpecting populace? Really, would that be too much too ask?
at 11:40 on April 16th, 2008
America made promises and commitments to it's own citizens and here it is off gallivanting around the globe f*****g everything that moves and spending the household money to do it. Does that constitute adultery? (:D)
If the statistics on adultery in the USA are credible it has become a national sport. Amazing for such a religious society!
If the Aids case fails I will certainly comply with your request, as long as there is no political or judicial interference and Mr. Boyd Graves doesn't disappear or have a fatal accident before the decision is rendered. Unlike many I do not believe in his contention until it is proven, anymore than I believed the lie that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. The contention in the case, by the way, is that the virus was devised to target specific groups of people, mainly blacks. If this is indeed the case the USA has really been making a difference in Africa hasn't it?
Will you, should the case be proven correct, recant your preposterous position about America's infallibility and righteousness and admit to the corruption and malice your country is gripped by?
at 11:45 on April 16th, 2008
Hell yeah.
Why don't we go a little bit further? How about if America is proven to be responsible for inflicting AIDS on the black population I will commit myself to a mental institution because I am obviously nuts to have believed in my country. But if America is cleared then you should commit yourself to a mental institution because you would be the one who is obviously nuts.
Either way one of us is delusional and that isn't healthy. One of us needs help and I could not live with myself if, in the remote chance that you are proven wrong, you are allowed to continue on with your delusions. I would even create a fund to help with your mental health bills, because I am so caring.
at 11:55 on April 16th, 2008
There is also a high probability that both of us are delusional about some things.
Don't worry about the 'fund' for me. Gasoline will be worth $50 a gallon before you know it. You'll have to take a wheelbarrow full of greenbacks to get groceries, if there are any on the shelves. I'm sure you'll need every penny you can muster for yourself!
at 11:59 on April 16th, 2008
Since I'm loony I think I am going to switch over to the loonie!

moonwolf, I like this story. It's good stuff. An excellent and thought-provoking read! Completely understood! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Rhonda,
There is hope as long as we are all capable of hearing criticism about ourselves and our country, and looking for ways to get along instead of impose our will.
I have many American friends and they are welcome in my home anytime!
at 12:23 on April 16th, 2008
Are you sure they are American "friends"? They could have been "sent" to investigate your alleged ties to Canadian-grown terrorism against the U.S. Then, infect you with AIDS and make you sing "God Bless America" over and over and over.
BTW...I DO repent as often as I remember to.
at 12:30 on April 16th, 2008
Ruski,
You weren't supposed to tell him about the "fake friends" operation the United States has been doing over the last couple of decades! Now all will be lost!

JERRY: Sex... to save the friendship. Well, if we have to...

I apologize for the above attempt at thinly veiled sarcasm. Especially to those not seeing the irony in hate-filled dialogue attempting to point out hate.

Sing God bless America over and over and over.......uh...
AUUUGHHHHH! No not that Ruski!! Pullease NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
at 09:38 on April 16th, 2008
moonwolf, you are very welcome! I am never opposed to constructive criticism. I'm glad you are welcoming:)! Best, Rhonda
at 12:26 on April 16th, 2008
"constructive criticism"? This is a joke, right? I haven't seen this kind of outright hate in a long time.
at 14:43 on April 16th, 2008
Anything other than "Yes Suh! Whatever you say Suh!" and "other" groups, religions, countries, or individuals are haters. Like it or not we've put up with more 'love' from America than any country, group, or even the biosphere can stand. You'll find 'love' American style covered in DU dust under the piles of corpses, in the rubble of whole countries.
"Others" are actually incredibly tolerant compared to Americans. Anyone with a brain knows where the hate in this world comes from.
