'Eelam' should be removed from Tamil party names:Lanka opposition

Sri Lanka's major opposition , UNP (United National Party) asked the government to forbid the Tamil political parties from using the dreaded world 'Eelam' in their name.

At present many Tamil parties has got the word 'Eelam' with their name.

The UNP leader Dayasiri Jayasekara said that instead of forcing the illusion of living in a separate land, the Tamil parties should focus on bringing and integrating the Tamils to the mainstream of Sri Lankan society.

He urged the Tamil parties to work towards removing the concept called "Eelam" itself from their minds.

Sri Lanka's main opposition party has asked government to initiate steps to "defeat politically" the 'Eelam' ideology after the security forces' comprehensive victory over the LTTE which had been fighting for a separate state.

Now that the LTTE leadership, including its chief V Prabhakaran, had been finished, there was an urgent need to look at various ways of defeating the concept of 'Eelam' or a separate Tamil homeland through political means, United National Party (UNP) leader Dayasiri Jayasekara said.

It was high time the government politically defeated the 'Eelam' ideology, he said, adding pressure should be mounted on concerned parties to remove 'Eelam' word from their names.

He was referring to Eeelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP), Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO), Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), People Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and Eelam Revolutionary Organisation of Students (EROS).

"Action needs to be taken regarding political parties carrying the name Eelam. The LTTE has imposed this concept on the minds of people who lived in the North and East.

Wonder what kind of dance Dayasiri Jayasekara is trying to play now? Problem with the current UNP is that none of their words can be taken at face value. They always try to play some double game. Now trying to win a bit of popularity by saying this?

Don't think it's good to tell Tamil parties to change their party names. Shouldn't it be upto them to decide what the names should be?

How many sinhalese and muslims are killed this year?Who do your refer to by "Tamil militants" LTTE is history now, so you must be referring to karuna aka Rajapakse's friend?

LTTE in the Wanni jungles is history. Who says the rest of them LTTEers blowing up towns is no more? 'Panama' shop owner in Majestic City, Colombo has just been discovered as one of the chief organizers of Bombs in Colombo. I'm sure you also play a big role in LTTE activities whoever you are.

I think you are over reacting. I don't see anybody said about removing the word Tamil from the names of those parties.

Sri Lanka needs Tamil parties. But certainly not terrorist parties.

correct. Come to next point.

Srilanka needs Tamils in the country. But not terrorists.

Who are all terrorists? those who ask their rights......!

So , Sri Lanka needs Tamils those who never ask any rights.

That means Srilanka needs Tamil Slaves. You just got it.

Kill the rest of the tamils those asks rights as you classify the terrorists.

I just wonder why all sinhalese NP acts like neutrals....most Sinhalese in Srilanka never been neutral and happy about the military win over Tamils.

Please kill rest of the tamils as soon as possible , then there will be no ethnic conflict and you can get the fund for rebuilding the great Sinhalese only nation which is your Dream.

Who are the terrorists? Only those who ask for wrongs by means of violence.

Sri Lanka don't need those and not many of them are left either. There is a fraction of truth in your statement. The British brought a lot of tamils as slaves (what a derogatory term is 'plantation tamil' ). Maybe the Brits have used some serious genetic manipulating technique because still a vary small minority of the tamils are longing for the British to rule them.

Terrorists always asked for the wrong and they got them. That too how..! If you go back a little through history, you can see how Sri Lankan government dealt with Sinhalese Terroists. Exactly the similar way LTTE terrorists too dealt with.

Rest of the things is just taken from the script written by Vairamuthu. Good ones, but does not carry any significance at the present scenario.
