The clocks are running for anyone stuck on either side of the Gaza strip and medical services as the Rafah crossing in Egypt opens for 48 hours.

The Gaza strips main access to the outside world was re-opened at 9:30am on Tuesday and will remain open until Thursday. This is to give anyone stuck in or outside the strip a chance to get back home, as well as provide some emergency medical aid.

The two-day opening is to allow people stranded on both sides to cross, and for some Palestinians to enter Egypt to receive medical treatment.

Earlier, Israel again closed its commercial crossings with Gaza after accusing Palestinian militants of firing a rocket on Monday.

A truce between Israel and Hamas which, controls Gaza came into effect in June.

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip were today queuing in their hundreds at the territory's hated border with Egypt after it was opened for the first time in months.

Crowds gathered at the Rafah crossing after Egypt agreed to ease the closure for two days, with officials saying that Palestinians requiring medical attention would be allowed treatment at Egyptian hospitals.

Al-Arish, Egypt - Egypt opened its border with the Gaza Strip for two days Tuesday after an agreement between the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel, security sources said. The Rafah crossing was opened at 9:30 am and will be closed on Thursday, the sources said.

Among those who crossed the border were a group of Palestinian students and others with Egyptian residence permits, who have been stranded on the border.
