FOX News is reporting that Egypt vice-president Omar Suleiman was the target of an assassination attempt.

According to the FOX story, US-based sources Omar Suleiman assassination attempt left two of his bodyguards dead. The story has yet to be confirmed by sources in Egypt

The NBC correspondent in Cairo, Richard Engel says the Omar Sueiman Assassination story is a rumor.

re-reports of assassination attempt against Suleiman. US source says "NO evidence of any attempt...rumor originated with media."

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs declined to comment on the Omar Suleiman assassination story.

Many view Omar Suleiman as a possible successor to embattled Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.
