Egyptian Interior Ministry Fire: Photos, Video
Egypt's Interior Ministry Building on Fire
The Egyptian Interior Ministry building in Cairo is on fire. It is not clear what caused the blaze. An Egyptian security official blamed the police, who were protesting outside the building. However, the police are denying setting fire to the building. The fire is now under control; seven floors were damaged in the blaze.
The Interior Ministry building was the nerve center for Egypt's infamous secret police, who enforced the rule of former President Hosni Mubarak.
Below is a photo of the burning Interior Ministry building from Jon Jensen, who is reporting from Egypt during its revolution.
The ministry was the site of a peaceful protest Tuesday morning and afternoon, with thousands of ministry employees -- many of them police officers -- making demands, mainly for higher wages.
