“A flash in the pan!”
When applied to a person, this idiom means the person rose to success and then disappears just as quickly. Such is what happened to Televangelist Eliseo Fernando Soriano. Hounded by a multitude of legal problems, the self-proclaimed “pantas” is nowhere to be found. Gone are his daily pompous, arrogant and frequently wet (as in spit) diatribes on anything and everything. He is now reduced to blogging and not a successful one at that. Abandoning his followers to his underlings, he is said to be hiding out somewhere in the U.S. What happened to this once semi-popular false prophet?
Who is Eli?
Eliseo Fernando Soriano, aka Brod Eli was born on April 4, 1947 to parents Triumpo Soriano and Catalina Fernando in Pasay, Rizal. His parents where members of the Iglesia ng Dios kay Kristo Hesus, Haligi at Suhay ng Katotohanan and his father was then the General Secretary and Treasurer. This religion was then headed by Nicolas Perez. For some reason, Eli grew up with his Auntie Toyang who was a devout Catholic and taught Eli catholic doctrines including praying to idols and reciting “Ama Namin”.
At some point his father told him to come to a worship service at his father’s church. He initially did not want to go but his father threatened to throw him out of a window which scared him enough to go. He went to Pasay with his father where he heard Nicolas Perez preached. He was later baptized to his father’s church in Bacoor, Cavite by Filomeno Hizon, a leading and trusted minister of Perez. This is where he started to transform himself into televangelist.
Even early on in his life and career, money had always been an issue with Eli. To pay his debt and support himself, he started cooking meals to sell. To his own admittance, he said he would gather rotten vegetables thrown away by market vendors and make these into lumpia which he would then sell for human consumption. He would later boast that this was a great idea because his profit margins is high. He also raised chickens and pigs in the back of the house he lived in. As his business grew and economic situation improved, he would engage in money loaning schemes.
In 1980, Eli began broadcasting on radio and in 1983 he had his first television program. He and his program ‘Ang Dating Daan’ became popular specially his ‘Itanong mo kay Soriano’ portion. He seemed unstoppable. As his popularity grew his tongue became even sharper and his tirade harser. But such is justice. His perceived eloquence which brought him success and popularity was the same instrument that would lead to his downfall.
After calling them ‘killers’, muslims converged at the Plaza Miranda in Quiapo to protest. However, by this time Eli has already fled the country because of other legal problems. The muslims then filed a P1 billion libel suit against Eli.
In 2006, Eli was charge with rape and was placed under the Bureau of Immigration watch list but it was too late because Eli has already fled. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued. By now, Eli has an Interpol wanted poster. So far, Eli’s location is still unknown and he’s still a fugitive from the law.
Where is Eli now? Some people know but would not date say. He is running from justice, his flock untended and his “empire” in ruins. Although he has many properties in his name, he does not have the freedom to enjoy such because he is in hiding. How far has this once semi-popular televangelist have fallen? Where he will end up, no one knows. What is known is that his end had only begun.

Are you one of the wanton writers of Iglesia Ni Cristo Administration and channel NET25 video, tape, news mangler editors? Based on your article, it is obvious that your goal is primarily to injure with deep disfiguring wounds the person of Bro Eli Soriano, with the intention to leave big, blatant scars. I hope you won't be like your senior, rizalino l arrabis , try to google his frustrated attempts in the internet.
A flash in the pan, means a sudden success that disappears quickly. I will disect the truth out of this expression used by Conrad. INC Admins admit Bro Eli Soriano succeeded to expose their demonic ways and how their Ministerial salary was affected. That is the truth. Another truth here is that the INC Admins are trying to employ every possible evil means, ways, tactics to make that expression come true. Conrad Obligacion's article is enough proof to show the obvious. Again, they want Bro Eli Soriano to disappear in the face of the earth by trying to bury him with the INTERPOL on their left hand, while rape and libel accusations on their mouths, and what not. At the same time, INC Admin wanted to cover up their lies by means of their attempt to malign the person of Bro Eli even in the cyberspace.
Justice is nothing when it comes to Iglesia Ni Cristo, they can twist it, don't you have any ideas, Conrad? Why? I never heard the MTRCB punished the editors of IGLESIA NI CRISTO when they played a mangled video of Bro Eli that they broadcasted in channel NET25 in their TV program Ang Tamang Daan. You will think that they will stop because they got away with it. but no! They continued playing more mangled voice tapes. And then, as if this is a way of life for them, they called suicide bombers and other people to wreck havoc in ADD Central Pampanga where widows, children live. Imagine, these anchors were laughing while talking their heart's out, and they are INC Admin Ministers, some, graduates of New Era University. What money can buy, really?
Conrad Obligacion, you are portraying here the INC that you are. You are in fact a mangler, a wolf in sheep's clothing, appearing and writing in the INTERNET a story of Bro Eli beyond recognition of his good works and humble beginnings.
The way you wrote your article lacks the justice, the courage and the self-discipline a Christian embodies. If you really find Bro Eli the opposite of your Executive Minister Erano Manalo of the Iglesia ni Manalo, why not say it direct to the point? Since you are a story teller, why not tell the story of Manalo too on how he came to own every single Palace like INC Chapels, all of which under his name, sole, well documented in DTI! Why not tell us also why Erano Manalo was not around to appear on TV or any form of Media to face the challenge of Bro Eliseo Soriano for a debate.
Don't you have any in you library files stating that Bro Eli Soriano, before he left the Philippines to preach abroad, was already challenging Manalo to face him in a spiritual debate in order to once and for all ease the tension among the followers of both side. I may be wrong by I think you’re the only one posting these messages. In any case, let me respond.
I don’t have any affiliation from the INC Administration nor NET25. Never had and probably never will. If you have issues with them, then please take it up with them.
My purpose for writing my article is just that, to write. I was prodded into using Soriano as my subject because of my interaction with his supporters like you. The article is not to injure you beloved Soriano but to write what learned about him so far. Besides, if injuring one’s self is concerned, he’s doing a good job himself. He made so many enemies in a short period of time.
You made some serious accusations against the INC. I hope you have the proof to back them up, if not, you might end up like you beloved Soriano. The INC did not commit the rape, not the libel in which Soriano is now accused of and wanted for. It was Soriano himself and his big mouth. And now, without a place to go, he’s and his cohorts like you are lashing out at anybody and everybody.
And why are you keen on this debate anyway? What is your purpose? If Soriano win’s the debate, is he absolved from the rape and libel case he’s running from? I think, and most people would agree, Soriano must focus on clearing his name first before debating anybody. He’s got a warrant of arrest and anybody can arrest him, even regular citizens. If he shows up in a public place like a debate, he can be arrested. If I see him, I’ll tell him to surrender. For his own good.

MY ANSWER: He is not a fugitive from the law. He is preaching worldwide. Proof is the many internationals now who have joined the Members, Church of God International.
