24 months ago: A Filipino Muslim cheers for a speaker by shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great!) during a rally Wednesday March 7, 2007, at a downtown Manila square, to protest recent televised preaching by a Christian sect leader Eli Soriano, who alleges that Muslims are killers.
AP

Eliseo Soriano, defunct leader of the cult Ang Dating Daan is facing a multitude of criminal and civil cases in his native Philippines. Reported to be on the run since 2005, Soriano left a popular TV show and a growing organization.

He left the Philippines, and his organization obviously to escape an arrest warrant for allegedly raping a male follower. No one knows what will eventually happen to him, and his failing organization.

Any accused person must be considered innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.

Of the 18 male fugitives of Philippine nationality on the Interpol Wanted list, only two are accused of sex crimes. Both of them are supposed to be preachers of God’s word. One is a catholic priest and the other is Eliseo Fernando Soriano. The priest is accused of raping a 14 year old girl, a member of his parish. Soriano is accused of raping a male subordinate. Any accused person should be considered innocent until proven guilty. The law requires the accused to face his accuser in a court of law and there prove his accuser wrong.

The rape accusation is not the only legal problem facing Soriano should he decide to come back to the Philippines. There are also a few libel cases filed against him by the Iglesia ni Cristo and also by the muslim. The one lawsuit filed by the Muslims stemmed from  some unsavory remarks made by Eliseo Soriano against Muslims and their prophet. A broadcast of one of his daily talk shows is on Youtuve, and it is one can find Soriano regularly spew diatribe against regular people, politicians and other religious organizations. And get this, he does his daily sermons using audio and video compact disk. So there is a chance that Muslims have a copy of this episode.

The muslims claim in their lawsuit that Soriano “uttered malicious sweeping … imputation of crimes … against them(muslims)” which they say “exposed them to dishonor, disgrace, shame…”.

But do the Muslims have a case? Can they show proof that indeed Soriano maligned them and their prophet? Soriano, as is the case in all of his legal troubles denies he did what he’s accused of. An expert witness challenge Soriano to provide the National Bureau of Investigation voice samples to be used to either confirm or falsify Soriano's denial. Soriano declined

There's a youtube video of someone who sounded like Soriano calling Muslims kellers. Here’s a transcript of the video and what he said about Muslims.

Soriano: “That’s what Muslims do. I’m not saying this because I’m crazy and I have a death wish because they indeed kill.”

Soriano: “You encounter a Muslim, they’ll criticize the bible. They say the bible is wrong. I say, they’re crazy. I tell them ‘well if the bible is wrong then why are you using it to justify Mohammad’s prophecy?’ They say the one mention in Deuteronomy 1*:18-19 is Mohammad and then they turn and criticize the bible. They criticize the bible and then use if to justifies Mohammad’s prophecy then you’re crazy, even Mohammad is crazy”.

This is not a court, we are not judges the guy is wanted for questioning and to be placed on trial for charges filed against him.

It would be very morally wrong and uncivilized to declare a charge of guilty before being judged in a court of law.

I do not like Eliseo Soriano or the religion, but no I would not declare him guilty.

He could sue you if found not guilty at his trial, I would be careful, you can say you think he is guilty. I really prefer that a person is presumed innocent till being proven guilty in a court of law.

Hi Babel,

I am not sure if you grew up in the Philippines but from the way I know about this Bro. Eli Soriano and his group, Ang Dating Daan, these people are law-abiding citizens and God-fearing citizens.  They have been branded as people who do not smoke, not liquor drinkers, and not most of all, not gambling.  Obviously, these people are prohibited from exercising these vices as stated by their faith.

In the UNTV network where much of Ang Dating Daan programs are aired, they organize plenty of public service programs for the poor with Ang Dating Daan or Bro. Eli either providing much of the financial help or initiating these programs through a foundation of their Church.

I also believe the evangelist is a victim of injustice and trial by publicity.  There has been much rumors and negative issues hurled against him.  Much of the legal cases filed against him may be used by his arch enemies to harass and dry his resources.  Since the early 80s, to the 90s, up to this time, his enemies would not stop in putting this evangelist to all sort of legal hurdles.  This is not surprising given Bro. Soriano's fearless exposes of the corrupt practices of his counterpart religious groups.

I grew up in the Philippines and have seen the bright and dark sides of this country.  When you tell the truth either you will get killed or get jailed for a crime you surely do not commit.  The same is happening to this evangelist.

I think you missed the subject of the article. It's about the Muslims and their lawsuit against Soriano. It's not about the individual members of the cult.

I haven't come across any news about the Muslims being arch enemies of Soriano, but I will try and find out and see what I can publish.

If Soriano's expose involves calling Muslims killers, maybe he should rethink. Just because some killers happen to be Muslims does not make all Muslims killers or even bad people. A personal experience, an Egyptian I didn't even know showed me kindness when I needed it is proof of this.

I am a retired British national, that has to live within a cheaper economy so that I can afford to write books and dabble as an artist. The main tie is my Filipino partner really she is the only one keeping me here. I however do a lot of research concerning culture, religion and politics of which I often write about. I have become very Filipino and most of my friends are Filipino's I have very little time for most of the Foreigners here. Though I do keep acquaintances mostly from UK and Australia. I eat all the local dishes and speak the local tongue full integrated within the society here and not the normal foreigner.

Much of what you say I am beginning to believe could be true but that last paragraph I agree totally with.

"When you tell the truth either you will get killed or get jailed for a crime you surely do not commit.  The same is happening to this evangelist" yet for this possible opinion Truthcaster "

But when I aired a very similar opinion.

What bothers me is that if Bro Eli Soriano was tried for these offenses would he get justice if he is innocent?  That may be why he is hiding away.  I do not like these religious cults as the church leaders run them as money making businesses.

However I do love to see justice and not Kangaroo courts, I also hate to see a person stated guilty by the media prior to justice being served at court. The following link shows the problem here in the Philippines concerning cases of rape Rape case more difficult accused its a story wrote by a Filipino citizen journalist friend of mine of which I just had to seed here on Now public. It highlights what problems Bro Eli would be looking at if he surrended himself for Filipino justice. It's extremely well balanced and I believe it highlight the truth of the matter.

This within another article of truthcaster's http://my.nowpublic.com/world/what-if-eliseo-soriano-simply-apologizes This is the rude answer I received

He wouldn't know unless he tries. Is running and being a fugitive justice for him or his alleged victim?

You are prejudging the whole Philippine judicial system. That's not only unfair, it is wrong, specially coming from a foreigner enjoying the hospitality of his host nation. You can always leave and go back to England.

No one in the media stated that Soriano is guilty. You should check your facts.

Any case, not just rape, is difficult if there is nothing to go with other than the words of the contending parties. You can check with your lawyer friends about this.

Well balanced? That is your opinion.

So I am a foreigner that has not allowed an opinion even if its true, lol.

I am beginning to think that truthcaster conrad obligacion is none other than daniel puto veridiano while watching him in youtube.com. I typed daniel puto veridiano and it shown he is gay or homosexual on cam the way he acted and the way he was described by the young guys that said he raped them, he is also serious when he was sickly, he was masculine when being interviewed by INC. He is known in INC to be a writer of his fantasy of rape.

I saw it in his avatar that he grew beard.

Maybe you missed the second paragraph of the article? Or  the question mark in the title? The rest of the article is well-sourced from newspapers, and not my own words. Try google news. I don't think people get on the Interpol wanted list just "for questioning".

It is evident that your passion is really to malign and discredit Bro. Eli Soriano.

How dare you steal the name of the preacher who labored hard to earn the said title.

By the way, if you really stand with your claims and reports, why do you not use your real name, the official and legal name your parents gave you?  Are you not proud of your real name? Or, are you afraid to also face legal suits.  For one, you can be charged of cyber-squatting for using a name of a popular personality.  You may also be charged of slander and libel for your rude acts.

Here is some little lessons for you.   From Journalism 101, writers or journalists are conscious of the fact that when they use their names in their reports, they stand behind it and they are certain that what they are saying are only the truth, and nothing but the truth.  Otherwise, only lies are implied to be reported when they do not use their proper names.

If you consider your stories truth and real, try using your name, disclose your identity and your religious affiliations so you can earn the people's trust.

For the sake of the people here who might get poisoned by your lies, it is high time they know that you have been reprimanded here for your uncivilized attitude - http://www.nowpublic.com/culture/liecaster-steals-name-truthcaster-slanders-and-gets-shut

So I guess your real name is truthoriented? I must say, it's got a good ring to it.

You should revisit you journalism 101 notes and apply those to your articles.

Anyway, I've been using the name truthcaster since the days of Prodigy. I bet you haven't used that or even heard about it. Yup, that's how long. Soriano started using it since he left the Philippines and started blogging. He started blogging because he couldn't do live shows anymore for fear of being discovered, arrested and deported back to the Philippines.

I don't think people get on the Interpol wanted list just "for questioning".

Agreed... but that also doesn't mean one starts implying that the Accusation maybe true. another religious preacher accused of rape/ molestation how typical.

1
truthcaster

thus the need for the second paragraph at the top of the article, repeated inside the quoted article. that's generous.

running from the law and trying to elude justice is an even stronger implying of guilt, more than an article could do. the accused is denying justice from the accuser by fleeing. could someone please think of the accusers too, who may well be the victims?

the article is only bringing to the attention to some what is already known to others. newspapers do that all the time.

But you think his guilty and have shown your feeling in the title and article, give us a break truthcaster your hinting that the guys guilty and seeing all the articles you have wrote on Bro Eli its shows your making much effort in  trying to prove it so. Just like some of the Filipino media are trying to portrait. In any case why are you dedicating so much time to this are you working for Bro Eli enemies? lol yep that hit the nail on the head.

I have been observing the inner workings of this author who steals the name of the real Truthcaster, Mr. Soriano.  I find that you do not honestly adhere to the journalistic ethics of fair and unbiased reporting.

Be man enough to clean your acts up in this site or the editors here might be forced to finally declare you a nuisance journalist and ban your account.

This is an international citizen journalism site which earned its high credibility and reputation not only yesterday but over years of hard work and adherence to the code of ethics in responsible journalism. Thus, it is but fair that you help and support the cause of this network website.

You sound a lot like the supporters of Soriano who've been leaving me messages since I started posting articles about your leader. I could be wrong, could you be the same person?

Anyway, if you're complaining about the contents of the article, you barking at the wrong tree. The article is well sourced. It is true that Soriano is one of only 18 Filipino males listed on the Interpol Wanted list, this can be easily verified. It's also true that he's wanted for sex crimes. Again visit the interpol site.

You can also check google news and find out whether Soriano was indeed sued by Muslims. Everything I've posted maybe new on NowPublic, but it's old news in the Philippines.

I'm glad you're into "high credibility and reputation". I should check out your articles and see what you got ;)

News and other reports online are just reflection of their roots - the print versions of tabloid news in the Philippines.  Tabloids in the Philippines are well-publicized yet full of sensationalism and mudslinging.

It is also no wonder that any lies being reported or any slandering being posted by news desks in the Philippines get its way on the web. Whether that news may be about the speculative and leading news reports about the ousted former Philippine president's alleged link to the killing of Dacer, or the other senator, Panfilo Lacson's involvement in this case, it will all lead its way on the web.

So, mere googling of news or any reports for that matter will not immediately give the truths about something.

1
truthcaster

I couldn't agree more, tabloids should be banned. These so-called "newspapers" have been in Philippine society for a long time, even as early as 1954, such as the ones used to libel and malign the Iglesia ni Cristo and it's leaders.

That's why I wouldn't cite them. I used The Manila Bulletin here, which is probably the largest circulation broadsheet in the Philippines, if not maybe second only the the Inquirer. I remember reading both when I still lived in the Philippines.

Talking about the lawsuit of the Muslim. It's true, a single newspaper report would not immediately give you the "truth". What if they made a mistake about the facts? But remember, these reports are several years old. Wouldn't you think that if the report were not true, a retraction should have been issued by now? If the lawsuit was not true, why was there a protest rally?

As far as the Interpol Wanted notice, you can check that yourself.

Actually after an attempted character attack on me personally my vote goes your way and I feel that truthcaster needs to be branded as a troll and kicked out. But of course that is up to the administration and I am now sure Truthcaster will overstep the line in the near future. Unless he learns the common decency of respecting opinions and not to insult them directly or indirectly.

I've seen the Interpol Website.. and yeah Bro. Eli Soriano is Wanted , yet he's innocent till being proven guilty in a court of law.You should also search for the names of the Prosecutors in all Cases of Bro. Eli Soriano .. and you'll be surprised "some" ,if not all of them, are members of Iglesia ni Manalo. You could find the names mostly in Wikipedia, but i think it's not really a reliable source.

0
Babel-Fish

Iglesia ni Manalo yep that for sure, is Truthcaster a member of the  Iglesia ni Manalo religious cult. Seems he is spending much time boring us with the subject of Bro Eli.

0
easemyburden ni soriano

That's why soriano has to go home and defend himself...but why did he choose to run away from the law which is giving him the chance to prove himself innocent....

and what about Soriano's secretary, Belen Talentado, conspiring in faking the certificate of detention to permit soriano's release by posting bail for his rape case where Soriano really did not show up and surrender to post bail as he is outside the country then and until today?  because that's really their thing...to lie and deceive people like you portraying good samaritans but inside are wolves preying their victims.

ok. im guilty that im a member of Church Of God Int'l which being presided by bro eli soriano.. lets set this clear..

Soriano was placed on the Bureau of Immigration watchlist onNovember 11,2005) on charges of rape filed by Daniel Veridiano, a former Communications and IT department head of Ang Dating Daan who later joined Iglesia ni Cristo. Macabebe Regional Trial Court Judge Manuel Siayngco issued the warrant of arrest. The charge was dismissed but was later refiled in a higher court by the country’s Department of Justice Secretary, Raul Gonzales, who is not in anyway involved with the case.

Soriano has denied the rape allegation, and says Veridiano was expelled from Ang Dating Daan after he (Soriano) received complaints of misappropriation of church funds and that Veridiano sexually molested 14 staff members. Veridiano has not faced charges despite the church stating that he confessed in both a video interview with Bro. Willy Santiago and by letter.

Veridiano had confess heres the url of the confession its tagalog but has subtitles..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9zc0lf52Ms

he confess he had raped several of our members,,

the only reason why theres been a warrant is because the the Iglesia Ni Cristo Ni Manalo Have used their power of their money..

and by the way the true truthcaster is not u its bro. eli soriano. heres the website www.truthcaster.com.

and by the way post the video which u can see the mouth of bro eli soriano not just text.. you can easily cut words u know.. and iglesia ni cristo are very good in that specialy in bad things.. like killing..

Is Eli Soriano the real truthcaster? A BIG NO NO! How could be an international fugitive be a real truthcaster when he is evading the truth. PERHAPS HE NEEDS TO FACE THE ALLEGATIONS. ANSWER THEM ALL AND PROVE HIMSELF NOT GUILTY!

I have been listening to Bro. Eli Soriano's program for nearly 10 years (since I was 14) and I must say, I am impressed. Though I'm not a member of the so-called Church of God International, his teachings made me understand my faith and brought me closer to God. Everything he said has biblical basis and does not depend on pure hearsays, his explanations of biblical truths are complete and concise, He is also fearless in exposing the lies and biblical interpretation errors of other religions.I came from a catholic family, with strict religious inclinations, I was educated in a catholic school since preschool up until college, but the catholic religion wasn't able to answer most of my questions regarding faith. With regards to this accusations against Bro. Eli, I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Innocent until proven guilty. I did an extensive search on the internet with regards to the real deal on this so-called rape issue, I saw Daniel Veridiano's video confessing his faults to his previous church. He explained how bro. eli helped him during times of need and asked for foregiveness for his sins. Now Daniel is already connected with Bro. Eli's arch nemesis, the INC. MMM.... I smell something fishy.... Is this rape issue true, or just charcater assassination bec INC is losing a lot of its members thru bro. eli's preaching???
