Empire State Building Green For Wizard Of Oz, Ahmadinejad

The Iranian opposition lobbied New York City make the Empire State Building glow green - its trademark color - during this week, when President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is visiting the United Nations in New York. The petition was not approved, but now the building will be lit up for another reason: the Emerald Gala for the 70th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz.

The Empire State Building will be illuminated on Thursday morning. Protesters are planing on standing underneath the building and cheer when it lights up, and pictures will be spread around the world for inspiration. Members of the Iranian opposition will also unroll a green banner almost a mile long across the Brooklyn bridge.
