Energy Expert Says to Nuke Oil Spill Leak (It Worked for Russia)

BP's recent attempt to "top kill" the biggest oil disaster in U.S. history has failed.  So what is the solution?  An energy expert says we should follow Russia's example and use nuclear weapons to stop the leak.

Prominent energy expert Matt Simmons, founder of energy investment bank Simmons & Company, says sending a small nuclear bomb down the leaking well is “probably the only thing we can do” to stop the leak.

Simmons also says that there is evidence of a second oil leak about five to seven miles from the initial leak that BP has focused on fixing. That second leak, he says, is so large that the initial one is “minor” in comparison.

“Probably the only thing we can do is create a weapons system and send it down 18,000 feet and detonate it, hopefully encasing the oil,” he said.

His idea echoes that of a Russian newspaper that earlier this month suggested the US detonate a small nuclear bomb to seal the oil beneath the sea. Komsomoloskaya Pravda argued in an editorial that Russia had successfully used nuclear weapons to seal oil spills on five occasions in the past.

Before we detonate, we need to put multiple layers of rock and concrete over the area so that the added rock becomes molten and in melting seals the leak.

If the explosion is 18,000 feet below the seafloor, with over 3 miles of the earths crust above it, is there any possibility that any amount of debris people can place on the seafloor will really make a difference?

nuke it , i mean what other options do we really have? let it drain itself out. bp doesn't seem to me to really care about stopping it. wave the jones act for gods sake and let the international community help us, why would we turn down all the assistance and ideas that are avalible. while tony haysworth  is in his little boat over in england and obama is playing golf and attending baseball games our gulf is dying. they just don't seem to care or understand . what happens when a hurricane comes straight up the gulf and spreads that oil inland? do whatever is required NUKE THAT S.O.B NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
