Canning Circus Police Station Firebombed

Riots are continuing for a second night in Nottingham, England. The Canning Circus police station was firebombed after being surrounded by up to 40 rioters.

No injuries have been reported in the attack; only minor damage was done.

Looting in Manchester, Birmingham

While London seems relatively calm due to the deployment of an additional 10,000 police officers, rioting and looting are taking place in other cities. Stores in Manchester were ransacked, and looting was reported in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said there were some pockets of disorder in Wolverhampton, where some stores had been broken into, in West Bromwich and in Birmingham city centre. The group in West Bromwich later dispersed, police said.

Meanwhile, the English Defence League, a far-right activist group that served as inspiration to Anders Behring Breivik, vowed to "stop the riots". John Cruddas at The Guardian described the EDL as "a dangerous cocktail of football hooligans, far-right activists and pub racists".
