WHO IS ENRIQUE IGLESIAS?
Enrique Iglesias was born May 8, 1975. He is a multi-million selling singer from Spain and the son of famous singer Julio Iglesias.
After the kidnappping of his grandfather Enrique moved to Miami in 1985. Where Enrique enjoyed the luxuries of being the son of a billionaire, and developed at the same time a taste for simpler things, a fact that would later surface in his concerts, where he would use all white, cotton shirts instead of expensive clothing to perform.
He didn't want his famous surname to help advance his career so Enrique decided to be signed by a then small Indy record label called Fonovisa in Mexico where he started his career. He went to Toronto, Canada for six months while recording his first album.
On July 12,1995 Iglesias released his first album titled Enrique Iglesias, which included mega-hits as "Si tu te vas", "Experiencia Religiosa" and others, selling a half a million copies in its first week, a rare accomplishment then for an album recorded in a language other than English.
Iglesias was nominated along with his father and Luis Miguel for an American Music Award in the first-ever awarded category of Favorite Latin Artist. Iglesias lost out to his father this time, but did perform the song "Lluvia Cae" at the event.
Iglesias performed the song "Quizas" on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, becoming the first to sing a Spanish song on the show and then continued forward to win a Latin Grammy Award for Best Pop Album, which has been followed by many other iternational awards like the MTV India Award for Best Male Pop Act International.
He has been a guest on Ophra Winfrey's talk show, in which he surprised one of his fans spending the day with her.
Iglesias has collaborated with songwriter Guy Chambers to write "Un Nuovo Giorno", from Anderea Bocelli's first pop album. The song was later translated into English as " First Day of My Life " and recorded by Spice Girl Melanie C. becoming a huge hit throughout Europe, and number one in numerous countries.I
Iglesias also wrote the single "The Way" for American Idol runner up Clay Aiken. Four songs co-written by Iglesias appear on the UK band The Hollies' current album.
Iglesias also has an interest in acting, he has acted alongside Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Johnny Depp in the Robert Rodriguez film Once Upon a Time in Mexico, in which he played the foul-mouthed gun-wielding Lorenzo. In 2007, he had role in the TV comedy Two and a Half , starring Charlie Sheen.
Iglesias also played the part of an evil Roman emperor in an TV commercial for Pepsi , which sponsored his last world tour. He starred alongside Britney Spears, Beyonce and Pink.
