Young Pioneers lower the Cuban flags opposite the US Interests Section in Havana. The flagpoles normally fly black flags with large white stars symbolizing the martyrs of the revolution. The flagpoles were raised in response to the US Interests Section displaying pro-democracy messages on a giant electronic display. The black flags were exchanged for the Cuban flags for the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Revolution on Dec. 2 2006.
