Eric Lau Charged with Murder of Jami Erlich, NY Gym Teacher
Eric Lau is charged with murdering Jami Erlich, a Suffern elementary school gym teacher. Police had been seeking Eric Lau after Jami Erlich's body was discovered in her Valley Cottage home. Eric Lau face 2 counts of second-degree murder and 2 counts of first-degree burglary.
Lau was arrested on Dec. 1, behind the woods of Woodglen Elementary School, New City, NY.
Eric Lau, 32, was Jami Erlich's neighbor. Police initially said Lau may know something about the murder, and was not yet named as a suspect. He is now held without bail in a county jail. Lau pleaded not guilty in Clarkstown Justice Court.
Lau has a history of emotional problems involving violence dating to his school years and was convicted of attempted robbery in 1997.
His mother, Tina Lau, called him "a good man," adding that her son had told her about Erlich moving into his apartment complex but said nothing else about her.
Police is seeking information relating to Eric Lau on Nov. 29, 2009 from 8 pm to 11pm. Anyone with information is asked to contact Clarkstown police at 845-639-5840.
